Got to take the girl to her first birthday party. She told us that she'd gotten an invitation once before but wasn't allowed to go. Well, all that is changing now!
When we picked her up to go get the gift and to go to the party, she talked about wanting to spend some of her own money for the present for the birthday girl.
That sweet precious girl. She had a blast! When I think of how she is almost 9 years old and had never been to a birthday party before, it just overwhelms me.
We are supposed to get her full time the first week of July. Keeping my fingers crossed...

23 June 2020
In Denmark, the solstice is tied to the feast of Saint John the Baptist, known in Denmark as Sankt Hans (“Hans” being the diminutive for Johannes, or John), who was supposedly born on June 24th. Because Danes like celebrating the eves of things, that means June 23rd is marked as Sankt Hans Aften.
The meaning of the summer solstice has varied through time: the Vikings visited water wells and held bonfires to ward off evil spirits. In medieval times, curative herbs were gathered for the year. Until 1770, this was considered a national holiday.
The bonfire tradition continues to this day. In the 1920’s, people began affixing a straw witch to the top of the fire as a way to remember the witch burning of the 16th and 17th centuries. The story goes: when the witch is burnt, she flies to Bloksbjerg, Germany, where a witch-gathering was believed to be held.
Due to COVID-19 the traditional gathering at the beach for the big bonfire was cancelled.
We were supposed to have a nice evening with some friends and my wife made this small witch.
Our youngest son was still sick so I stayed at home with him.
