I mentioned before that my Dad is a horologist - in fact, he's a Fellow of the British Horological Institute!
He loaned me a couple of pieces he's been working on so I can practise my macros, and I was pretty impressed with my little Nikon's results. When you consider that it's only 4 megapixels and is a fairly basic point-and-shoot, it gives excellent results, even without a tripod!
It's shown me one thing though.
Always inspect one's subject before commencing a shoot.... Damned watch is covered in fluff!
BNSF 129 and 1462 lead the Watertown to Wilmar local on an overcast summer day. This line only gets about 2 scheduled trains a week with the occasional extra unit train.

Op 18 augustus was ZSSK-locomotief 361 129 onderweg met EC 128 Puchov - Praha hl.n. bij Stary Kolin. De serie 361 is ontstaan uit locomotieven serie 163 waarbij de maximum snelheid is verhoogd en de machines voortaan zowel onder 3 kV gelijkstroom als 25 kV wisselstroom kunnen rijden. Inmiddels hebben een aantal machines, waaronder deze locomotief, een aangepast outfit gekregen waarbij het ZSSK-logo op de zijkanten het meest opvalt.

I am often confronted by my inner geek and his need to consume. Sometimes I win, often I loose. Did I mention I ordered an iPad?
A very late 129, Whangarei - Auckland goods, drops downhill into Swanson this morning. The two lead locos are the ones that got sent north this morning to rescue the train from Helensville where it broke down last night. Supposedly one of 129's locomotives caught fire although I couldn't see any external evidence of that.
