Hulleys Dennis Lance/Optare Sigma N360VRC (11) seen climbing into Stanton while working the 12:55 Bakewell-Matlock 172.

Hulleys currently operate three Lances, the other two being sisters N361/2, all arriving new to Trent. Following the withdrawal of the two Vectas last year, they now stand as the only step entrance service vehicles in a fleet otherwise consisting of three MAN Evolutions, four Dart Evolutions, three Solos, a MAN Centro, an E200, an ALX400, a Cadet and several private hire vehicles.

The structure on the left is one of several similar buildings situated at entrances along the walls of the seventeenth century, Grade II listed Stanton Hall.

1)Thành phố New York có 11 chữ cái

1) New York là tiểu bang thứ 11.

2) Chiếc máy bay đầu tiên đâm vào tòa tháp đôi là chuyến bay số 11.

3) Chuyến bay số 11 đó chở 92 hành khách. 9 + 2 = 11

I wanted to choose another picture for this week, because this one is not exactly technically perfect, but I decided to take it anyway, because it shows Barneys personality so much :)

I golfed this morning and it was really, really cold but by lunch-time the sun broke through and although it remained a little cool our afternoon turned out to be beautiful.

Taken during a walk along the beach just as the sun was going down ~ the end of a great day!

I spotted Zeta on the tube in London. She was sitting right opposite to me and I knew she was my next stranger. She got off the train couple of stations before my stop was due but because I wanted to ask her to take a part in the project I left the train right after her. I followed her and asked if I could take a photo of her. She agreed to pose on the London Bridge Station.

I was walking along Euston Road when I spotted Kimaathi standing in a door way smoking a roll up and looking at his iPad. I walked past, thought about it, and doubled back to ask for a picture. He said it would cost 50 quid for a picture, laughed and then dropped his price to 0. I took a few full length pictures to get what I had originally seen but I prefer the mood of this one.

Kimaathi is a real character. He's an 'editor' which, on further discussion, means he makes video's. I mentioned that he's probably no stranger to Flickr then to which he replied that yes, he knows Flickr. It provides him with an endless supply of free stills for his video clips. Naughty man!

I had originally intended to have this picture in colour as I liked the purple pinstripes in his suite jacket but the B&W just looked too good.

Thanks Kimaathi, hope you like your picture. It was a hoot meeting you!

341 Lancasters and 11 Mosquitos of Nos 1, 3, 5 and 8 Groups despatched to Aachen. 9 Lancasters lost, 2.6 per cent of the force. This raid was accurate and caused widespread damage and fires in the centre of Aachen and in the southern part of the town, particularly in the suburb of Burtscheid. This was Aachen`s most serious raid of the war.

I must have seen about 200 photographers out on 9/11 photographing the tribute lights. I know most people try to keep other photographers out of their photos but for some reason I love to include them. I think it adds a neat element....... I was waiting for the day someone would spot themselves on my stream and say hey that's me!... Sure enough, last month it happened..... Say hi to Michelle in NY

This is such a great way to make friends.... Don't you think?

This was shot just as the sun started going down, so the tribute lights are hard to see.

The First Two Minute Silence in London:

The first stroke of eleven produced a magical effect.

The tram cars glided into stillness, motors ceased to cough and fume, and stopped dead, and the mighty-limbed dray horses hunched back upon their loads and stopped also, seeming to do it of their own volition.

Someone took off his hat, and with a nervous hesitancy the rest of the men bowed their heads also. Here and there an old soldier could be detected slipping unconsciously into the posture of 'attention'. An elderly woman, not far away, wiped her eyes, and the man beside her looked white and stern. Everyone stood very still ... The hush deepened. It had spread over the whole city and become so pronounced as to impress one with a sense of audibility. It was a silence which was almost pain ... And the spirit of memory brooded over it all.

~~From the Manchester Guardian, 12th November 1919.~~

World War I, a.k.a. First World War,

the Great War and

"The War to End All Wars"

It was a total war which left millions dead and helped to shape the modern world.

At 11:00am on November 11, 1918 —

the eleventh hour of

the eleventh day of

the eleventh month —

a ceasefire came into effect and the opposing armies on the Western Front began to withdraw from their positions.

In Flanders Fields

The poem "In Flanders Fields" by the Canadian army physician John McCrae remains to this day one of the most memorable war poems ever written. It is a lasting legacy of the terrible battle in the Ypres salient in the spring of 1915.

"This poem was literally born of fire and blood during the hottest phase of the second battle of Ypres. My headquarters were in a trench on the top of the bank of the Ypres Canal, and John had his dressing station in a hole dug in the foot of the bank. During periods in the battle men who were shot actually rolled down the bank into his dressing station.

Along from us a few hundred yards was the headquarters of a regiment, and many times during the sixteen days of battle, he and I watched them burying their dead whenever there was a lull. Thus the crosses, row on row, grew into a good-sized cemetery.

Just as he describes, we often heard in the mornings the larks singing high in the air, between the crash of the shell and the reports of the guns in the battery just beside us.

I have a letter from him in which he mentions having written the poem to pass away the time between the arrival of batches of wounded, and partly as an experiment with several varieties of poetic metre." Lieutenant Colonel Edward Morrison

it's official...i'm completely obsessed with fall leaves. :)
