Moly_x is an International Moleskine Exchange, i.e. if you don't already know. I was invited by Kelly Harcus whom I met last year in UK, to be one of the members in group 10 and here's our shared blog Moly_x_10. I did a few pages on my Moleskine on the topic about *time* and asked fellow members to share their thoughts through drawing/sketching/painting on the book. Now that everybody in the group should already drawn something on mine, I can't wait to receive it back through snail mail. What I drew on others' Mole are here and here.

Last night I finished Lorraine's book. Her topic was about "other worlds, fantasy, alter-egos...." The drawing I did was on my mind since the day I read her post about the topic. This has a lot to do with Tarot and two books I like: A book of fireside poems, Solitaire mystery. Here's my own encounter of Joker:

He waived his hands and murmured "shooo", all of a sudden dozens of flies flew away from the back of my head. My vision changed, my mind cleared, my senses heightened. I began to hear a poem sung to me within. "Once I planted some potatoes in my garden fair and bright; Unelated long I waited, and no sprout appeared in sight. But my "peachblows" in the cellar, on the cold and grimy flag, all serenely sprouted greenly in an ancient paper bag". Then my Joker friend laughed a thunder-like laughter and began to sing. "When I think on the happy days I spent wi' you, my dearie; and now what lands between us lie, how can I be but errie. How slow ye move, ye heavy hours, as ye were wae and weary! It was na sae ye glinted by when I was wi' my dearie." I blinked and he was back to my beloved deck of cards in no time. I had no idea these two poems/songs would one day became the love stories of my life. My Joker friend had just showed me a movie running backward......

I had a great time with Moly_x_10 group members!

Age of the universe so far: 13.798 billion years (1)

Average human lifespan: 67.2 years (2010 world average) (2)

To the universe, your whole life, from birth to death, is like 10.33 seconds in your life. Use those 10.33 seconds wisely. They might seem a lot, but they aren't. Don't make your happiness depend on the effort of others. It's all up to just you.

Shot with a Kiev-10 soviet camera, one of the strangest-looking SLRs I have ever seen, supposedly a technological wonder of its time (late 60s). Semi-automatic exposure, selenium cell metering and a weird titanium fan-shaped shutter. The looks are straight off "Doctor Who", this may well be the Dalek of cameras! Befitting its looks, the Kiev-10 was taken into space several times as the official camera of the cosmonauts. Nice Helios 81 2.0/50 lens but with a proprietary bayonet mount that doesn't fit any other cameras (save for the Kiev 15) and no adapters for other mounts are available. The same lens can be found with a Nikon mount for the Kiev-17, -19, -20 cameras.

With just 10 minutes before my train home, I knew a 36 was due in from Leeds. I had calculated that the trial Streetdeck would either be this diagram of the one after this 15 minutes later. As you can see, it wasn't this one. Instead, former Burnley & Pendle Witchway Volvo B7TL Wright Eclipse Gemini PJ05 ZWL is seen heading towards Ripon - yet to call at Harrogate é then on to Ripon.

Oh, To Avoid Cleaning

Stranger #10 - I met him on pier in Santa Barbara. It was getting dark very quickly and I really wanted to take one more portrait. When I asked he was very surprised (pretty normal reaction :D) but he agreed to have his photo taken. This is one of those stupid shots with subject in rather dark conditions against bright background. I think it went well though :)

This picture is #10 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

(Stranger #10 : ALYSSA) Day 91: 100 Days of Spring

I have to admitt that for the most part of this project, it's always the physical part of a person that catches my attention first and Stranger #10 was no excemption. She had the wavy/curly Taylor Swift-ish hair goin', and she looked like one of 'em Disney teen stars :D But what got me really interested was seeing her writing a card with a Fountain Pen. I remember when i was a kid, my mother got me one of those type of pens, but i've never really seen anybody used one til i met my 10th stranger, Alyssa.

After mustering enough courage to ask her to be in this project, I spent the next hour sittin down with Alyssa on coversations about anything and everything, from the history of Ukraine to the TV series Lost.

The fountain pen was a gift from her dad. I take it that her dad is one of the most influential person in her life as she mentions him often. I remember early in our conversation when i introduced myself, she told me that her dad was a photographer too, i can't really remember if he was a pro photographer but i remember that she said that he's been into photography for so many years. She told me that she speaks Ukranian, as that is where her dad was from. I told her how that is a great thing, seeing the sad reality of how a lot of Filipino kids here in the U.S., who were either born here or grew up here has completely lost touch of their heritage, the spoken Filipino language included.

This gal does a lot of writing on her spare time, just like when i met her, she was writing a thank you card for her friend. She says the she writes on her journal everyday, and is currently writing a book! I told you she writes a lot! I guess i forgot to ask her what the book was about. And books! she got all excited when the conversation turned to books. She shares how she loves collecting and finding (and reading them too from cover to cover) first print books, mostly historical fiction about Europe (god, i really hope i got all these facts right, lol, its just there was so much that we talked about that it was hard keeping track, i wonder how them journalist do it. Do they take down notes? The only time i note somethin down is when i'm writing my strangers' names to make sure i remember them and i get the spelling right, lol) She gave me the names of places around downtown Sac where i can find really great books having told her i spend most of my weekend time in Barnes & Noble. I guess i missed to to tell her that i'm there all the time not really to read, but to people-watch :D

Alyssa is originally from L.A. and i'm not sure how she ended up here in Sacramento, but she's eventually moving to Washington D.C. to get her masters and possibly a PhD in Foreign Policy Studies. So she's obviously not the partying-txting-realityShowWatchin-Disney-teen-stereotype that the impression i had on her was. We went on and talked about the bands and music that we listen to, to TV series and and the joys of walking and keeping things on a slow pace to fully enjoy and experience the things around you.

Its interesting how you can learn so much from a person in just an hour.

All these make me appreciate this project more and more and it has again showed me how people can be so different from what they appear and that they can be really nice and would be willing to spend an hour of their life just to talk and learn from each other.

Alyssa is my 10th stranger for the 100 Strangers Project.
