For this week's Switcher Sunday we see a 1000HP Baldwin DS44 moving some coal at Mace Tower in Massillon, Ohio. Being in January 1965, this is probably from my first roll of slide film. At this time, there were still 2 tracks between MACE and Warwick (One PRR and one B&O, but operated jointly) and the Pennsy still kept a switcher at Mace for local duties. This is taken out of the tower window.

What accelerates 0-60 in ~2 seconds, has around 1000hp, and has a price starting at over a lofty 1/2 million? A Ferrari SF90, that's what! Get out your checkbooks, gents!

Not all plug-in hybrids are built for efficiency; some are built for speed. The Ferrari SF90 is one such counterexample, combining a twin-turbo V-8 with a trio of electric motors and a 6.5-kWh battery pack to spit out 986 horsepower in standard trim. The SF90XX models, laser-focused on race-track driving, get an extra 30 horsepower—as if they needed it—awarding the SF90 lineup entry in the four-digit power club. The massive power output goes to all four wheels with the front tires driven electrically. Double-X versions also have a stripped-down interior and other changes in the pursuit of all-out lap time. The standard SF90 is now available only as a convertible called the Spider, with a luxurious cabin lined in leather and featuring an unconventional screen-and-control layout. The XX can still be had in Stradale coupe form or as a Spider. Whichever version of the SF90 you fancy in your wild imaginings, know that the powertrain, aerodynamics, and chassis wizardry come together to make one of the best mid-engine sports cars in the world—Ferrari or otherwise.

The standard SF90 Spider comes packed with enough amenities to make it a satisfying pick, especially if you plan to keep to the street more than a race track. If you want to give this Ferrari a more customized appearance, you can select from a host of upholstery choices and paint hues. There are several different wheel designs, and the list of available upgrades includes carbon-fiber components, a titanium exhaust, a digital rearview mirror, and brake calipers in a variety of colors. Which one to buy? There’s no wrong answer.

With the SF90, power comes from a massively powerful V-8 and three electric motors. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 generates a mighty 769 horsepower on its own, and the trio of electric motors provides an additional 217 horsepower. In the end, the gas/electric powertrain generates a net output of 986 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Upgrading to the SF90 XX unlocks 30 more horsepower for a total of 1016 hp and adds a feature Ferrari calls Extra Boost, which temporarily increases power output to help regain speed when exiting a corner. Power is sent to all four wheels, making this the first mid-engine Ferrari with all-wheel drive. An eight-speed automatic transmission oversees the proceedings. Different driving modes allow you to tailor the car's handling to suit your preferences. Use the mode selector to dial up EV Only, Hybrid, Performance, or, last but not least, Qualify—a setting that allows you to fully exploit the car's performance capabilities.

NYNJ 5101, one of the three newly purchased KLW SE10Bs, pulls away from the float bridge as the barge it has just loaded departs for Greenville Yard in the backrground. The boxcar and gondola were used as spacer cars during loading and unloading of the barge as the locomotive is not allowed onto the barge due to weight restrictions. Also, during unloading, cars on one side of the barge must first be pulled half way off, then the cars on the other track can be pulled off completely, and then the cars that are still halfway on the barge can be pulled off completely as well. This is to not offset the weight balance and to prevent the barge from tipping over.

The KLW SE10B is Knoxville Locomotive Works' lowest horsepower locomotive offered with an output of 1000hp. It is an ultra low emission diesel locomotive built for lighter duty switching purposes. More info on their website!

A train at Bridge of Dun, on the Caledonian Railway from Brechin. This is an ex BR Class 20 no.20166, a 1000hp locomotive built in 1966 and currently on loan from the Harry Needle Railroad Company.

30 April 2023 - as noted by Jed (thank you), sold by HNRC.

Privately Owned Class 20001 (D8001) which is based at the Epping Ongar Railway is seen here coasting into Dereham MNR approaching its rostered rolling stock ready to form the last train off the Gala heading Towards wymondham during the Mid Norfolks Railway Diesel Gala in 2022. Being one off the first Class 20 locomotives built back in the late 1950’s the first off it’s type - the class20 locomotive Type 1 Bo-Bo with 1000 H.P. Makes a welcome visit to the MNR being looked after by its group with the locomotive being well over 66+ years old and still sounding and performing well in preservation and certainly made some fantastic performances whilst being upfront. - 25/09/2022.

Driver Mike allows himself a quick glance back at the train while coasting along in the Diesel Traction Group's beautifully restored Di 1102.

This is a wonderful sounding machine, its 6 cylinder English Electric 6csrkt providing a magnificent Alcoesque thrash when provoked, with a notable turbo whine that sounds magical when notched up or down. A subtle and unpretentious nose, with a lingering hint of sharpness around the sides. Goes well with pies or fish when paired with chips.

The historic English Electric's 10 notch controller is in dynamic brake here near Hindon. Given a rare chance to sing at full volume, she is running out on the old Otago Central branch hauling an offline DJ loco, 7 carriages and a van. With 1000hp in a lightweight 63 ton 6-motor loco (70.6 short US tons for any American listeners) it is an impressive performance indeed in the rain on some of these grades.

Di 1102 is a loco that I knew as DI 1820 - under the TMS numbering that was introduced in 1978. The 5 Australian-built EE locos bounced between Dunedin and Oamaru from the late 70s-mid 1980s on freight and transfer work plus the Stone Trains and other jobs in the area before the surviving locos were transferred to the North Island and employed as heavy shunters (but generally being thrashed on light workings) for their final years at Wellington, Masterton and Napier from memory. This is the only survivor... and she's gorgeous.

I've now bought all the presents for Christmas and I'm broke! But there is also the yellow STRADALE... a gift from my aunt, who said: everyone would have a red one! Thank you very much .. she had forgotten that Deutsche Post has yellow cars! Well...quickly go to the dealer, they'll definitely be able to sell it well for Christmas. 😎🙏

The Ferrari SF90 is Ferrari's first plug-in hybrid vehicle. The first vehicles were delivered in 2020 and the name "SF90" is an abbreviation for Scuderia Ferrari 90 and is intended to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the racing team.

This is Rathmalana Locomotive Works in Sri Lanka, on the left is one of the British built Class M7s number 813. This good looking 1000hp locomotive was constructed by Brush in Loughborough in 1980 and is powered by a GM EMD 645 . All the parts to rebuild her are scattered around the floor like some massive mechanical Jigsaw. To the right is a Class M11 number 957 built in the Banaras works in Varanasi in India. 10 were supplied to Sri Lanka in 2018 with EMD 12 cylinder 710 engines.

The owner made it >1000hp :)

This '32 Chevy 3 window coupe is one of a kind! Power is supplied by a tried and true Reher Morrison 565CI engine, with over 1063 Horsepower at the crank, this is not for the faint of heart!

Included features: MSD Ignition Control, AM/FM Radio, GPS, Power windows, Tilt-wheel, Traction Control, Seat belts, Leather interior, Kill Switch, Posi traction, Racing wheels. There is plenty more to brag about on this amazing build.

Built by English Electric in 1966 at their Rocklea works in Queensland, Australia, the loco is powered by a 6CSRKT putting out 1000hp.

The peace and quiet of deepest bucolic Devon was treated to the awesome amazing song of two class 20s this morning. The English Electric 1000hp 8SVT power plants echoed around the countryside of Littlehempston as 20205 TnT with 20189 attacked the gradient leading to Dainton summit.

The Krakkau 1 is a 3rd generation main battle tank prototype built by the United Carpathians' Army. It was a quick and cheap response to the on-going Common Main Battle Tank program. It was heavily rebuilt from Kogot 2 medium tanks which were avalaible in great numbers. It received composite armor and ERA plating on the hull, a 1000hp multi-fuel engine and a completely new turret. However it came at a price. The tank's weight went from 38t to 52t but the new engine and the hydropneumatic suspension negates that effect. Most of the extra weight came from the larger turret which later ended up on the Krakkau 2. Its front is thick and well sloped plus it mounts a significantly bigger gun, a 120mm smooth-bore cannon and 55 rounds for it which are separated from the fighting compartment by an electrically operated door. The Krakkau 1 is also equipped with two heavy machine guns, one mounted co-axially, the other on an anti-aircraft mount, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Thermal Observation and Gunnery System, enabling it to fight at night in poor visibility and through smoke screens.

Some backstory for my country in DC6:

The base model, the Kogot 2 was a late 40s/early 50's era tank in service of the USST's Army. However, the Tongorian Union collapsed in 1956 due to the extensive arms race it could no longer fund. In the coming years a new country emerged on the ashes of the Union. At first, the Carpathian Economic Community was a reqional organisation which aimed to bring about economic integration and equality between its member states. It was created by the Treaty of Chongrad of 1962. Upon the formation of the United Carpathians in 1971, the CEC was incorporated. It united all of the smaller nations in the region that now were free from the Tongoria's tyranny. They are now called the United Carpathians, treating all member states the same.

SMV 04.07.2009 - July 2009 saw a classic car meeting at Samaden airport at 1700m above sea level with the Swiss Super Constellation as a special guest.

2nd special guest was the Rolls Royce Hurricane, that has a 1000hp engine which needs about 480 Liters of fuel per hour. Nobody knows the consumption per 100 kilometers, since the Big Block is an early version of the legendary Merlin engine, which was used in the British interceptors during the Second World War.

The beast weighs 3 tons and could accelerate up to 280 km/h. The body is a 1930 Rolls Royce and one of a kind.

The Beauty, of course, is the Super Connie "Star of Switzerland" HB-RSC.

20031, originally numbered D8031, is a Type 1 diesel electric locomotive and a member of the only successful class of Type 1 locomotive built for British Railways.

It was built to the design of English Electric by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn in 1960 and is powered by an English Electric eight cylinder diesel engine 8SVT of 1000hp. It was withdrawn in September 1990 and was immediately preserved at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. The loco is seen shortly after departing Haworth with a train for Oxenhope.

68027 only entered revenue earning service less than 3 weeks previously on 3rd May

A set of 48s return empty from Stratford Colliery. We chased the empties up, and then, at the colliery waiting for a signal in, we heard the crew over the scanner being told that there was no coal today, so they ran around the balloon loop and the whole train headed back south empty.

We had hoped to get quad 48s (baby 1000hp lightweight Alcos) on a Pelton train earlier in the day but this came along so we chased it on the North line instead.
