====================

The FED-10 is a pretty interesting Soviet camera. On the one hand, it is practically the latest member or version of the FED "family", the mother of all Soviet 35mm cameras. But on the other hand, it is a mechanically different camera from its predecessors, heirs to the Leica model and its focal plane textile shutter.

The FED-10 has a leaf shutter that linked with the rangefinder and light meter. In fact, it takes inspiration (very typical of Soviet industry) from the West German cameras of that time, the 60's. You can see how the shape and mechanism is very similar to cameras like the Voigtländer Vitomatic IIIb , the Zeiss Ikon Contessa, or the Kodak Retina Automatic. It was manufactured between 1964 and 1967 (this one in 1965, in particular).

But of this specific camera, the most interesting is the dedicatory inscription that was engraved on the back. It's obviously in Russian and I think it's this text:

May 1972

With the help of several online translators, I thinks it says, roughly:

"For the Major of the Guard E. A. Volkov, from the Command and personnel of the Air Guard Regiment, for imppecable service and military friendship, May 1972"

In other words, the person who was given this camera in 1972 was a major in the Soviet Air Force, specifically serving in an elite (Guards) regiment. There is a possibility that the translation of the rank is "general-major", but it does not fit with the command of an air regiment, where the maximum rank would be colonel or similar.

Unfortunately, it does not indicate which air regiment in particular was the one mentioned; along with the date, it would give a lot of information about where it was "presented" to E. A. Volkov. Maybe that's exactly why ...

I have really got to be better about coming up with titles... I wanted to find a good quote for it but I don't have time.

It's off to school then work all night, busy day ahead of me.

I've been tagged!

List 10 things that people may or may not know about you, but they have to be true. Tag 10 people, let them know they are tagged, and remember to link back to the person who tagged you. Post a picture on your stream and list your 10 things and 10 tagged people.

1. My name is not Jeniee, it is Jennifer. I go by Jeniee because in high school I wanted to be different and it has stuck, it is who I am now. The burning question that I am constantly asked (before they know my name is Jennifer) … How do you pronounce Jeniee? – just like you would pronounce Jenny. ;)

lol I once heard someone say Genie, like genie in a bottle! :X

2. I am a vegetarian. I have been one for almost 4 years now. I have my days where it is still a struggle, but I am happy where I am at and that is that. I have never once preached my beliefs on anyone and feel like everyone should do as they feel. I personally hate when my fellow veggies preach because they give us the reputation that we have. Let people believe what they want, if they chose to learn more or spark an interest in vegetarianism/veganism, let them do so. But don’t pressure them or tell them they are wrong for their decisions, it’s ridiculous and only scares them off or offends them.

3. I am an only child. My mom says I am her miracle baby, she had me young and had a hard time conceiving after that. I had a brother who was stillborn. I often wonder what it would be like to have him around now.

4. I grew up an Army brat. I traveled the world and saw many places and I am so happy to have been where I have. I wish I could see more and soon hope to. My favorite place was England. I moved there as a teen and left as an adult. I miss it so much and had the best days of my life there.

5. My junior year of High School I was voted Homecoming Princess and my senior year I was Homecoming Queen and Prom Queen. I was also voted “best dressed” and “most likely to be famous”.

6. I am five feet and two inches tall (5’2”). Apparently the women in my family shrink because I used to be 5’2 ¾ . But I look taller because I have VERY long legs for my height. My inseam is about 34”.

7. My absolute favorite thing to eat in the world is Eggplant Parmesan. I always want it and always will, and Cheesecake, oh and Tiramasu!

8. I am a true germaphobe and clean freak. I am not kidding or exaggerating. You may say oh me too! NO. I really am beginning to think I need help.

9. My favorite ice cream flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip. Sometimes I get in debates over this (nothing serious), it is NOT Chocolate Chip Mint. They’re totally different flavors! Mint Chocolate Chip is GREEN mint ice cream with chocolate chips. Chocolate Chip Mint is mint flavored chocolate chips in a slightly mint flavored ice cream, more so vanilla though. Sheesh. ;)

10. I have little to no patience. I can’t really elaborate on that, it is what it is. And I get mad a lot and pretty quickly. When I was in high school they made me take “anger management” which I stopped attending after one session.

bonus facts because my second favorite # is 14 (favorite is 7, which is also my anniversary 7.14, and many other coincidental dates and info for me)

11. I haven’t had a haircut in about 5 ½ years, by a professional anyway. I always cut my hair myself and I don’t know if I ever will let someone else do it again. I have had so many incidents where they’ve cut too much and I hate it.

12. I was born with a birthmark right next to my right eye, but I had it removed in 2001 I think. It wasn’t anything horrid, but I always hated it and had problems with it, so now I have a small scar (which I always photoshop out of my photos).

13. I once went on the “Lemonade Diet” after Beyonce famously lost lots of weight on it for Dreamgirls. I lost a lot of water weight and I still can’t believe I did it. I fasted for 21 days before I gave in and ate again. The bad thing, it involved a salt water “flush” and was disgusting and has put me off salty water forever. I can’t stand being in the ocean when water gets in my mouth now because of it.

14. Another question I am asked a lot… “What ethnicity are you?”. I am very mixed, but the general consensus says that I am ¼ Thai ¼ Greek, (descended from Italy), and ½ Black. There ya go!

Some very boring and random facts about me. :)

If I tagged you and you've done it don't worry.

Considering that I made that ReShade in less than an hour, I'm still quite impressed (sometimes).

as with so many ideas i have these days, this one almost happened in a field. in the end i used what i call "the secret room" at work. i think it worked out better.

i originally wanted a slightly overhead shot from behind, but those never looked quite right.

this might very well be the most prop-intensive shot i've ever done.
