Clincher photo: 1/60, f5.0, ISO 1600. sharpening and cropping tools used. There are more duties and obligations to him than ever before. He needs to work hard to maintain the happy life he has right now and he is enjoying it. He is very happy now and he will always be because he found the way to striving for happiness. My artwork has portrayed the contrasts and changes of perceiving "happiness" during different phases of human lives. Particular examples may not apply to all the people but the general idea does. We need to cherish and enjoy our life right now. Laugh whenever you want and do not be afraid to express yourself! What amuses/ satisfies you today will not last forever since we are continuing to grow as a person. One can always find happiness through different ways, whether it be playing with favourite toy, reading your favourite book, spending time with the other half, cooking good food for the family or working hard to support the family......

The great cormorant is a large black bird, but there is a wide variation in size in the species' wide range. Weight is reported to vary from 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) to 5.3 kg (12 lb). Males are typically larger and heavier than females, with the nominate race (P. c. carbo) averaging about 10% larger in linear measurements than the smallest race in Europe (P. c. sinensis).
In European waters it can be distinguished from the common shag by its larger size, heavier build, thicker bill, lack of a crest and plumage without any green tinge.

I've been a member of the 100 strangers group for almost three years now. Every once in a while I thought about getting started with the project but never did.
Today I saw the face of this man that sat leaning at an advertising pillar getting some change from people passing by - and instantly knew I wanted a photo of him. I passed and watched him from a distance, struggling with myself. Finally, I went and talked to him.
His name's Mr R. He told me he had his own construction company with 70 employees. The Diabetes he suffers from caused serious walking problems, but he's getting around with a walking frame. His 35 yrs old daughter is a pediatrician living in another town. Turns out he's often at the spot where I met him, collecting change for his smokes. That means I must have passed by him numerous times without noticing – and today his face just struck me.
After taking the shot, I told him I'd be back in a week or two to give him a print.

Update May 2011
I've passed the spot where Mr. R was supposed to be many times, but haven't met him. I'd already given up - but last week I met him on a nice and sunny but somewhat cold morning on his usual spot.
He looked quite bad. While I went towards him two younger women came out of a store, pointed at him and laughed. I could have slapped them, but Mr R didn't even notice.
I greeted Mr R and asked him how he was. We talked for a while, but he didn't seem to really remember me. So, he repeated various parts of our previous chat. Anyway, I gave him the photo which was already a little damaged due to the many weeks in my bag. He seemed to appreciate it.
After seeing Mr R's condition and the giggling women I couldnt help but feel really sad.
I went about my business and had to pass near the spot where Mr R was maybe half an hour later. Again I went to him - in our first meeting he had told me how he enjoyed smoking so I asked him what brand he favoured. "Just anything, really", he said, "maybe PallMall". I promised to get him a packet next time we met.
I don't smoke myself so I'm not familiar with the tobacco shops, but now that I cared to look I spotted one only a few meters away. So, I went inside and asked for a packet of Pall Mall. Of course, there are various types of Pall Mall and I had no idea, what Mr R preferred - the only thing I ruled out where the ones with menthol.
The woman in the shop noticed my uncertainty and we began to talk a little. I told her the smoke was for Mr R - she knew him and told me he always buys the regular Pall Malls. So, I took one and went back to Mr R.
Well, I definitely made his day.
When I finally headed to work I felt a little bit better, even though not as good as before our encounter.

Cuando estudiaba historia del arte, allá en el precámbrico, la catedral de Colonia se identificaba muy bien en los exámenes por tres características: 1 su estilo gótico, 2 el color negro, que se apreciaba aún en las diapositivas en blanco y negro, que siempre pensé que era el efecto de los bombardeos de la II guerra mundial y 3 porque la vista solía ser aérea y destacaba sobre las edificaciones de manera inusual.
El sábado estuve un rato en Köln y constaté esas razones: en efecto, a pesar de haberse construido a lo largo de mas de 600 años, los arquitectos se mantuvieron fieles al original y su estilo es gótico a pesar de estar acabada a fines del XIX.
La catedral es negra por que la piedra con la que está construida oxida en color negro y únicamente las partes recién restauradas aún no son negras.
En cuanto al tamaño... Redios! impresionantes sus mas de 150 metros de altura: casi no hay manera de sacarle una foto entera si no es desde un avión.

This coming Monday's Macro theme is cloth ... so I started thinking about some interesting ways to capture some cloths. I settled on getting the macro of the cloth in some sewing action.
This of course meant I would have to engage Mrs. Krach. First off this required me to enter her sewing room which meant I needed to get a 'Permit" to enter the space.
Do not want to mention the Red Tape needed to actually touch the new sewing machine ...
I then searched through some of the fabrics laying about, and this one with the blue cloth and sequins I imagined would make for some nice reflections and bokeh.
Given all the preparatory permits and permissions needed to set this up, I took a bunch of close in compositions at various apertures to play with depth of field. So will posting some variations to see which folks like the most before submitting the final one to the Macro Monday group coming up.
This capture here was taken with the tight composition at true 1:1 focal length, and at f/8 to get some bokeh patterns in the cloth.
