The shores of Lake Geneva were not always suitable for human settlement. During the Würm glaciation (-130'000 to -10'000), glaciers covered the Alps. The Rhône glacier, coming from the Valais, was joined by the Arve glacier, born in the Mont Blanc massif, around the Salève. At the end of this period of glaciation, the glaciers gradually retreated: the blocks transported by the glaciers were then deposited on the exposed moraines.

After the sunset with a clear sky over the mountains and the purple hues tinge the clouds covering the lowlands to the right, this is my favourite panorama to date! This is the picture I have been holding back for! www.glensumnerphotography.com

Fireworks on Pudong Avenue on the third day of the Chinese New Year festivities 2011.

The Chinese New Year does not last just one day as western New Year - the main festival lasts for three days, and it finally ends after two weeks, on the next full moon following the lunar new year day.

BTW: The flickr location database wrongly states Yangpu Qu instead of Pudong. Off by some kilometres...

While driving back from scouting locations for later in the evening we happened across this fantastic view. Have a great rest of the week all!

This is an HDR shot of Grand central Station, New York. I took the wide view to get the scale of the building in, it actually reminded of a Cathederal and that is why I went for the HDR.The shot was taken about 7 on a Saturday morning so it was not that busy, there were more people than this though, but they were blurred by the long exposure and the HDR process so I decided to take them out during processing, again to emphasise the scale.

Would have liked the coot closer to the camera but also didn't want to lose the lovely pond surroundings & the reflections by focusing in too close so the coot had to stay distant:)

Enjoy a lovely weekend everyone & for those of you struggling with the heat, stay as cool as this coot!

At the temple grounds at the Shingon Buddhist temple Gokoku-ji in Tokyo. The temple dates back to 1681 and is quite uncommon in Tokyo to have survived up to the present day - through the Meiji restoration, the big Kanto earthquake and the World War II bombings.

It really is a quite lovely place to walk around, well worth a visit.

Amazing clouds near Delft, Netherlands.

In winter, the rice terraces are free from plants, so that the light often reflected in various colors of the sky. When we arrived at the viewpoint pulled fog over the rice fields, but towards the afternoon (as in the picture) the fog lifted .

I think it is a hard work to plant all this fields with rice. With machines may not be working there. The non- water-filled terraces are usually planted with potatoes .
