Panorama blue hour shot taken from the City Hall at Southwark, London. On the right you have the Tower Bridge, on the left the Central London skyline and in the center Tower Hill. Lots of tourists and people walking around in this area, that's why some of them are still a bit visible. The big fat building under construction is 20 Fenchurch Street (160 meters tall). I recently read that it will feature a sky garden on top with free public access. Should be interesting, defenitely for the urban photographers out there.

Jiráskův bridge is the sixth bridge over the Vltava river downstream of Prague connecting Jirasek square right bank of the Prague Old Town and Left Bank district of Smichov.
Its construction was started in 1929 by architect Vlastislav Hofman and Ing. Francis Mencl. As a concrete material was used, five leading pillar is 4.6 m wide lined with granite blocks. The bridge is 310.6 meters long and 21 m wide. Arc has six fields with a span of 45 to 51 m surface of the outer surfaces of artificial stone, plaster, concrete railings and lighting columns are glazed patio surface. Both are located beachhead 13.5 m high pylons with decorative fountains and obelisks. The bridge was put into operation in two stages. First it was the middle of the tram rails in 1931 and then 18th October 1933 the rest. For tram rails proved to be unnecessary and were removed. After the bridge, but resulted only in Prague trolley line connecting both banks of the Vltava.

Someone must have planted these in the White Lake meadow and it's a very effective eye catching little flower! It seems to like growing in Colorado and there are not too many images on flickr! I had a hard time figuring out what it was but I think I'll be adding a few to the overall image pool. Pretty much SOOC except for crop and general adjusts.
Thanks everyone for all the warm comments and emails. I've been pretty tied up with marching band and tonight I'll be back to shooting the team. Just needed a little something new to explore for a bit!

Rhodes(Greek: Ρόδος, Ródos, IPA: [ˈro̞ðo̞s]; Italian: Rodi; Ottoman Turkish: ردوس Rodos; Ladino: Rodi or Rodes) is a Greek island approximately 18 kilometers (11 mi) southwest of Turkey in eastern Aegean Sea. It is the largest of the Dodecanese islands in terms of both land area and population, with a population of 117,007[2] of which 53,709 resided in the homonymous capital city of the island.

The city of Rhodes is located at the northern tip of the island, as well as the site of the ancient and modern commercial harbors.
In the 1st century AD, the Emperor Tiberius spent a brief term of exile on Rhodes, and Saint Paul brought Christianity to the island. Rhodes reached her zenith in the third century, and was then by common consent the most civilized and beautiful city in Hellas. In 395, the long Byzantine Empire period began for Rhodes, when the Roman Empire was split and the eastern half gradually became a Greek empire. Although part of Byzantium for the next thousand years, Rhodes was nevertheless repeatedly attacked by various forces. It was first occupied by Muslim forces of Muawiyah I in 672. Much later, Rhodes was retrieved for the Byzantine Emperor Alexius I Comnenus during the First Crusade.
In 1309 the Byzantine era came to an end when the island was occupied by forces of the Knights Hospitaller. Under the rule of the newly named "Knights of Rhodes", the city was rebuilt into a model of the European medieval ideal. Many of the city's famous monuments, including the Palace of the Grand Master, were built during this period.
The strong walls which the Knights had built withstood the attacks of the Sultan of Egypt in 1444, and of Mehmed II in 1480. Ultimately, however, Rhodes fell to the large army of Suleiman the Magnificent in December 1522, long after the rest of the Byzantine empire had been lost. The few surviving Knights were permitted to retire to the Kingdom of Sicily. The Knights would later move their base of operations to Malta. The island was thereafter a possession of the Ottoman Empire for nearly four centuries.

The former branch to Hawes trackbed can been seen in the gap in the trees in the centre just left of the middle home signal.

The Mole Antonelliana is the symbol of the city of Turin. Located in the city center close to the neighborhood Vanchiglia, named after the architect who conceived it, Alessandro Antonelli. Fiery sunset over a High Sierra lake | Sequoia National Park
I'm back in LA!!!!!! (ugh.)
Just spent my most epic, crazy, awesome summer yet in the Sierras.
Thought it might be appropriate to post this one first since it was one of my first photos of the summer. Actually, it was one of my first hikes of the summer. About 7.5 miles, up 2200 feet...came back in the dark...things could be worse when you get rewarded like this. ;)
I hiked 608 miles this summer, including over 300,000 feet of elevation change. I feel like I lived in the mountains for long enough for them to begin to be able to make the scenes my own. What this means is that I was able to capture dozens of images from some of the most remote places in the United States: peaks and lakes that are 30 miles from the nearest road and 6 miles from the nearest trail, many visited by less than a dozen parties each year. Occasionally I got some thunderclouds to add to the drama (usually meaning I hiked 15 miles through pelting hail and lightning all afternoon), but other times, a pristine reflection beneath a blue sky was all I wanted. I will be releasing the images over these next few months and I hope you enjoy each of them and their stories, for I went through so much work to get them!
I really, really, REALLY hope you all have been doing amazingly well and I look forward to perusing your streams to see all the amazing images from this summer! A special thanks to those who added me as a contact while I was away; I'll be sure to check out your work tonight, tomorrow, or sometime very soon!
Still trying to get over the culture shock of seeing more than 3 people per day...

No se necesitan muchas palabras para describir Brujas: su solo nombre ya evoca un ambiente mágico, sereno e inolvidable. Un paseo por Brujas es un viaje al pasado, un cuento de hadas hecho realidad.
Las vistas de sus canales, sus edificios históricos y su aire romántico, dejan huella. El casco histórico de Brujas fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en el año 2000.
Un paseo en barca cruzando los canales medievales, es una experiencia muy agradable que recomiendo.

You do not need many words to describe Bruges: his alone name already evokes a magic, serene and unforgettable environment. A walk along Bruges is a trip to the past, a made fairy-tale reality. The sights of his channels, his historical buildings, his romantic air, leave fingerprint. The historical hull of Bruges was declared Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO in the year 2000.
A walk in boat crossing his medieval channels, it is a very agreeable experience that I recommend.
It is the time of year that I will see the dawn light during my morning trip to work.
I decided to keep a record of sights I see on my way to work. I did not take my bulky DSLR and instead I picked my cheap and humble Fuji S1600 compact for the in-the-car shooting.
In the foggy morning during the last few days, I took a few shots on my way to work and the shots are mostly taken when the car was running in full speed on highway (I was not the driver).
I have no time to carefully frame the composition (the car is running really fast) but they are snapshots showing the scenes on the highway from Richmond to Delta where my workplace is located.
This is the one taken at the traffic light stop on River Road in Delta.

In this photo the bulls are nearing the finishing post and they had to turn left to avoid running into the embankment straight ahead.
Looks like this is what is going to happen now. - I mean that the bulls are going straight on to the embankment.
The runner on the left ought to have controlled the bull to make them turn but handling heaving and seething masses of bull power running in the mud is not at all easy.
The people are already scattering and running for cover. Not to miss the vidographer in the lungi who is recording the run.

Adoor in Kerala holds its famous Bull Races every year around the time of Onam. It is a celebration of agrarian existence and is carried on without any grants or aid from the Government. This is a spectacular fiesta of rural Kerala. There are 2-3 other such events that are held in Kerala.
Two racing bulls are hitched together and three men come into action. Two racers with lead ropes on either side of the bulls who try to control the direction and speed if possible and one often obscured by sprays of mud and water, a jockey who rides on a small flat strip of wood.
The bulls race ahead with the men keeping desperately abreast of the thundering hooves. At the end of the racing track there is a 4-6 feet embankment of earth which acts as a protection and a marker for the bulls. The embankment gets totally crowded with onlookers. The bull racers need to turn the bull around and do a 360 degree here but most times that effort fails as the bulls in their racing frenzy would be uncontrollable.
I have no idea on the current status of the bull races. There are enough organisations howling to stop such races but the Supreme Court of India in a judgement a few months ago allowed bull/bullock cart races to go on in Punjab. So chances are that the tradition may still live on.

I watched this Tricolored Heron feeding in early morning light last winter / spring. Tricolored Herons are such beautiful birds.

I woke up early yesterday morning and decided to make the most of the time and catch some sunrise shots. I was pleased to see there was a light mist on this small lake, which I think gives the image an interesting atmosphere. This is a 3 bracketed shot HDR using my tripod.
There are more of the same to come as I soon as I process them....
Temi Tea Garden is the only tea estate existing in the state of Sikkim, India.It was Established in 1960s by the Sikkim government under the last King, Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal with an estimated area of 435 acres. It employees a total number of 406 wokers and 43 staff members. It produces about 100 MT tea annually.The garden is just 18 km from Ravangla and can be visited on a day tour from Ravangla.
The trees - in Pink Colour is called "Mayum" in Local language. Feel the Mayum bloosom in Temi Tea Garden.

I spend an hour or two with my brother yesterday. First I had a completely different idea but it ended up like this. My brother and I found some apples on our way to this spot and decided to use them in the photo. (it's not the same spot as the last photo - Fascination of light - I 35:52 I )

This star trails image was done in ruins of the Steinschloss castle in Styria, Austria. The castle is already impressive by day, but spending the night in the ruins of this medieval fortification, with some bats as the only companions, is indeed an intense expirience.
Stack of 40 individual frames, each of 60 seconds exposure time (Canon EOS 550D, ISO 800, 10mm, f/3.5), resulting in a total exposure of 40 minutes. The ruins and the landscape were illuminated by the first quarter moon.

El Djem is famous for its amphitheater, often incorrectly called a Colosseum (roughly translated from Latin as 'that thing by the Colossus'), which is capable of seating 35,000 spectators. Only the Flavian Amphitheater in Rome (about 45,000 spectators) and the ruined theatre of Capua are larger. The amphitheatre at El Djem was built by the Romans under proconsul Gordian, who was acclaimed Emperor at Thysdrus, around 238 and was probably mainly used for gladiator shows and chariot races (like in Ben-Hur). Many tourists come here to see what it was like to be inside what was once a place where lions and people met their fate. Much of it is crumbled but the essence of it still remains. It is also possible that construction of the amphitheatre was never finished.
Until the 17th century it remained more or less whole. From then on its stones were used for building the nearby village of El Djem and transported to the Great Mosque in Kairouan, and at a tense moment during struggles with the Ottomans, the Turks used cannons to flush rebels out of the amphitheatre.
The ruins of the amphitheatre were declared a World Heritage Site in 1979.
Drifting sand is preserving the market city of Thysdrus and the refined suburban villas that once surrounded it. The amphiteatre occupies archaeologists' attention: no digging required. Some floor mosaics have been found and published, but field archaeology has scarcely been attempted.
In the world of writing materials, Thysdrus lay in the Empire of Papyrus, which preserves remarkably well if kept as dry as at El Djem..

The amphitheater was used for filming some of the scenes from the 1979 Monty Python film The Life of Brian and was also used for filming some of the scenes from the Academy Award (Oscar) winning film Gladiator with Russel Crowe. In the old days when it was used for real gladiators, the gladiators would be kept in dungeons under ground. The star shaped holes in front being their only lightsource. Ákos Márton is one of the many Hungarian architects about whom almost nothing is known concerning biographical information. About Ákos Márton currently is not more biographical information available than is to find in the databases of Jewishgen.
Born as Ármin Marton on December 9, 1869 in Pest and later he used the given name Ákos.
Father: Lipót (in one case also called Antal), born in Szent Antalfa. Mother: Rozalia Stiglitz or Stieglitz, born in Boglar or Szőlős, both names be written in the databases.
Ákos married on May 12, 1895 with Gizela Schosberger, Ákos was 26, Gizela 25.
In 1899 he lived on the Kis-Stáció utca 5. (Budapest, VIII. District)

Ákos Márton (Márton Ákos), must been, given his age, graduated around 1892/1893. Perhaps the first building he designed is that on the Városligeti fasor. Because, according to an official document of the district Terézváros, at that time he would have designed a building: VI. Bajza utca 28 / Benczúr utca 15, and this document provides the information that the property should be built around 1890. It will then probably one of his first designs.
He started as an architect who designed neo-classical buildings. That kind of designs he used during his whole career, but he also designed a number of buildings in a Viennese / Western Art Nouveau style. Later in his career he used again the neo-styles in his designs.

I found out that this pelican has been a resident of the Imperial Beach Fishing Pier for the last 6–7 years. I don't know if that is a tall fishing tale {but I would appreciate it if anyone from IB could weigh in on that assertion to confirm or deny}.
All I know is that I saw him for the first time yesterday ... and then again this morning. I knew it was the same pelican because he favored his right foot. He was quite amenable to being photographed and I got quite close. The close up shots are really good, but I loved this shot the best as it captured the gorgeous morning light streaming down the pier and the distant fisherman. My shot was leached of color for the most part so sliding this right into a black & white was a no-brainer! And most of you know I don't do b&w ... so this is an unusual appearance in my Photostream!!

The Old Republic Building is a high-rise building in Chicago. This was the first high-rise in the area east of Michigan Avenue between the river and Grant Park, and when it was built it enjoyed high visibility.
Its construction finished on 1925 and was designed by Vitzhum and Burns. When it was constructed, at just 24 stories, it was considered a classic skyscraper in every sense of the word. Its height, style, and location demonstrated all of the attributes that when put together make a great skyscraper at the time.
Located on the northeast corner of North Michigan Avenue and East South Water Street, the Old Republic Building was one of the first tall buildings, along with the London Guarantee Building, to be constructed south of the Chicago River on North Michigan Avenue after its widening in the early 1920s. The building exemplifies the city’s efforts to encourage commercial development on the avenue as a result of major improvements brought about by Burnham and Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago. The construction of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, the widening of the avenue and the construction of the bi-level roadway at South Water Street and Wacker Drive in the 20th century changed the face of Michigan Avenue in particular, and the downtown in general.
One thing that caughts ones attentions is the "Betsy Ross" 13-star US Flag outside the building, which was one of the biggest symbols of the American Revolution.

Subiendo de Airoa (A Laxe-Fornelos de Montes) hacía el monte la primera verja importante a la izquierda, abrirla y meter el coche por la pista, hasta el primer sendero a la derecha. Ahí comienza mi ruta.
Nos lleva desde tierras de Airoa por el Suído, cruzando el río Parada hasta las eólicas, y de allí baja un sendero a Pigarzos (sin pisar asfalto durante unas 4 horas ida/vuelta).

(se entiende semi-libertad porque se les desparasita y controla sanitariamente de forma regular, y en el caso del ganado vacuno se recoge en invierno por las noches y sobre todo porque tienen dueño).

I was standing in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. when I took this photograph between honking cars and speeding bicyclists. I was arrested by the local police because they considered my tripod a dangerous weapon. I was handed over to the Department of Homeland Security, interrogated and labeled as an “enemy combatant” ready to be renditioned to Guantanamo Bay.
That wasn’t even the bad part.
My poor Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera was scanned, swabbed and fingered by some unsavory guys wearing pink shoes, purple smocks and white gloves.
I finally yelled out from the top of my lungs, “Photography is not a crime!” and handed them a copy of this:

They put a black bag over my face and forced me into some vehicle. After an hour or so I was then thrown out of the vehicle and found myself in some place called Freedom Plaza back on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Yes, it’s tough being a travel photographer.
I also have a wild imagination.
None of this is true (but this could be the next Dan Brown novel) with the exception that I really was on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. taking this photograph from Freedom Plaza.
This is a great location to photograph the U.S. Capitol with a city view. It looks like I’m standing in the middle of the road, but actually Pennsylvania Avenue takes a slight bend where the plaza is at so you have a direct view of the Capitol with the traffic coming straight toward you.

Another three in one photograph.
From the banks of the of the Potomac River you can get a great view of the Arlington Memorial Bridge, The Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument all in one frame.
The Arlington Memorial Bridge not only links the state of Virginia with the District of Columbia, but also the Civil War era North and South.
On one end you have the Union’s Lincoln Memorial and across the Potomac on the Virginia side you have the Confederacy’s Robert E. Lee Memorial.

This is a pano made up of three 24mm shots stitched with CS6.
A warm mid-day scene from the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake, taken just below the famous Many Glacier Hotel. The pyramid-shaped mountain on the center is Mount Grinnell, a name it shares with a lake and a glacier not visible from this angle.
This was a beautiful mid-morning, the waters of Swiftcurrent Lake were very still and peaceful.
I just came back from a Summer vacation to Alberta, Canada and Montana, US. We had a wonderful weather, clear and sunny days perfect to make great images.

Una calida manana en el Lago Swiftcurrent, en Many Glacier, Montana. La montana del centro en forma de piramide es Mt Grinnell. Ese dia las aguas estaban muy tranquilas y el reflejo era perfecto. Acabo de regresar de unas vacaciones en Alberta, Canada y Montana, USA.

I was late again this time, rushing for spot for this beautiful sunset, feel frustrating a little while, because the sun is going down so quickly, and the colors kept changing...worried about missing it again. Have to mount the Filter holder, the wireless remote shutter release, the filters, the tripod and the composition. Phew...finally, as you can see the sun was totally down below the horizon.....this magical moment last less than 5 mins..and I drove 1 hour to this place and use only less than 5 minutes...dang....landscape photography this is....
Saw this Spare while setting up my tripod, so might as well include it because the foreground was a little empty..and I have very limited time.. I swear I'll get out earlier next time.....
