Even this picture, like the previous one, will be part of "reportage / story" I have in preparation entitled “Stolen Innocence”.
The child is taken up at a shelter for abused children and, unfortunately, he has been mistreated by their parents who forced him to beg on the streets and at the end of the day if they did not fit a set amount was beaten and left for fasting punishment.
Now it's much better approached in a religious order whose intention is to study to become a priest to help many children.
I again reiterate my warmest thanks to the always friendly tutor who were kind and affectionate that I shall continue to highlight the love with which they carry out their commitment to these children and a special thank you also and especially to Mother Sister Serafina.

Improvvisa vocazione
.
Uno strano sogno mi avvolge,
s'impadronisce della mia anima,
ma improvvisamente sento vivere
in me una voglia ardente.
in quella vita vissuta male, in quella gioia
tanto pretesa, ma, mai avuta.
Il mio sguardo incupito adesso trova
uno spiraglio, una nuova luce,
quella grande luce dove i pensieri assillanti,
strazianti oramai sono....assenti.

Sudden vocation
.
A strange dream surrounds me,
she takes over my soul,
but suddenly I feel alive
a burning desire in me.
My eyes are vague, lost, but
no longer want to touch my hands
darkness, this darkness that have already embraced
for so much, for too long ...... i have suffered.
E 'wet past so many tears,
my heart is no longer what it once
in that life lived badly, that joy
as alleged, but never had.
My eyes darkened now, share
a crack, a new light,
that great light where the troubling thoughts,
harrowing now I am ... ... .... absent

The first day of our workshop this weekend was very very wet. The second day, we were treated to sunshine and rainbows. :) The Pacific Northwest is about as indecisive as it can be when it comes to weather and that is one of the reasons I love it here. If you have lived here for any length of time you have seen it rain, snow & hail, during a severe windstorm and then turn to beautiful blue sky 5 minutes later. Our last stop of the workshop was Lower Lewis River Falls, one of, if not my favorite waterfall. We started at the top and encouraged those in attendance to make their way across the water to the top of the falls even though the water was running pretty good from the recent rains. It took a little while to coax them over to the prime locations near the edge of the waterfall but I am very persuasive and in the end we all made it safe and sound.
After shooting our fill at the top it was time to drop down below the waterfall. If it is your first time visiting this waterfall and it is running good like it was this day, dropping down INTO the water below doesn't seem like a very good idea. Again, I am persuasive and willing to lead by example so I jumped in and everyone followed. I also do everything possible to make people laugh and have a good time on our workshops and on this trip I did that by falling face first into the water. Just as we reached the bottom of the falls the sun dropped below the clouds that had been keeping it at bay and it lit up the entire waterfall blowing every highlight like candles on a birthday cake. Zeb and I used this as a perfect example of managing highlights and shadows using filters and camera controls. The rainbow you see in the picture would appear only when the sun was the brightest and when it did, the direct light hitting the fallen tree cast a giant shadow across the waterfall. That is when the million dollar question came....
What would you do with that tree shadow Aaron?
After quickly assessing the situation and realizing that even all 240 pounds of me wasn't going to budge that tree and that I may have to admit to this photographer that I did not have an answer for them I realized it was a great time to talk about image blending. I explained that sometimes a simple blending of images was all you needed to find a workaround to something like this so I suggested that we take one shot when the sun went behind the clouds and then a second when it was it's brightest and we would blend only the wall of rock on the left that contained the rainbow into the final image.
I took a couple shots of my own to see if I could actually pull it off and the high contrast caused by the direct light made for an interesting image in my opinion. Thanks again to everyone that came this weekend and thank you for your feedback and constant support of us and our workshops. Zeb and I both really enjoy each and every one of them and have a great time meeting so many great people and helping to inspire young photographers. Our 2011 schedule is finalized and a couple of the workshops have already begun to fill up for next year. Check out the blog for more details.
View of the 2010 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon finish line seen from the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol building looking down John Ireland Boulevard up to the Cathedral of Saint Paul on the hill.
More than you probably want to know:
The 26.2 mile Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon has been held each year in early October since 1982. The MTCM is called “The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America." The race starts in downtown Minneapolis close to the Metrodome, travels South through some very scenic city lakes (Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Lake Nokomis), then goes along the Mississippi River bluffs before crossing into Saint Paul, up historic Summit Avenue to the Cathedral of St. Paul and then down a little hill to the Finnish line on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol. This year over 5,000 volunteers and 250,000 spectators cheered along 4,085 incredable10 mile racers and 7,753 amazing marathoners.
If your wondering about the name, Medtronic is a locally headquared medical device giant that has been gracious enough sponsor the TCM since 2006 – so they get top billing.

The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.
The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.
The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.
The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.
Did not know this United 747 was part of Fleet Week... It did two passes in the bay before the Blue Angels performed. San Francisco is a United hub so it would make sense for United to participate (albeit not part of the Navy). United has hosted the Navy's Blue Angels at its Maintenance Operations Center at SFO.
Fun Facts: The Boeing 747 is a widebody commercial airliner and cargo transport, often referred to by the nickname jumbo jet or Queen of the Skies. Introduced in 1969, it is among the world's most recognizable aircraft and was the first widebody ever produced.

History of Fleet Week:
San Francisco and Fleet Week share a long and storied history starting with the arrival in the Bay of the President Theodore Roosevelt’s “Great White Fleet” in 1908. Comprised of 16 battleships of the Atlantic Fleet and various smaller vessels, this historic flotilla featured hulls painted white except for the gilded scrollwork on their bows.
Throughout the 20th Century, San Francisco was a major focus of naval operations, and served as the headquarters of the United States Naval forces under Admiral Chester Nimitz during WW II. A generation of “Liberty Ships” and other military vessels were built, launched, serviced, berthed and later retired at such historic sites at Mare Island, the Marin Shipworks, Treasure Island, Hunters Point Shipyard, Suisun Bay and the Alameda Naval Air Station.

Photo Lino Cannizzaro. Tratto dall'antologia "Poeti del Québec" Ed. Fili d'Aquilone, 2011.

Automne
Avec dans sa valise, de belles couleurs
L’automne s’installe avec douceur
C’est la période ou tout change
Sous le regard des Anges
J’Aime beaucoup cette saison
Où je quitte ma maison
Pour parcourir la nature
Et découvrir ces couleurs si matures
C’est aussi les grillades de châtaignes
Qui font disparaître nos migraines
Le cidre très doux
Si pétillant qui peut rendre jaloux
Ne soyons pas monotone
Parce qu’ arrive l’ Automne …….

Autumn settles gently

I love this season
As I leave my house

And find these colors if mature
It also grilled chestnuts
That remove our headaches
Very sweet cider
If sparkling that can be jealous ...
