Kiss me gently,

just brushing my lips.

Hold me closely,

your hands on my hips.

Touch me softly,

a whisper on my skin.

I melt into your arms....

You win.

Yes, the focus is off a touch...but I like the pose and the perch. Was so excited

to see this beautiful hawk in this great light that I guess it was a little hand-held shake,

as well. Give it your best shot...do it to the best of your ability...and never look back.

Red-shouldered Hawk ~ Florida Wetlands

****************************************************************************************************

The Red-shouldered Hawk is a medium-sized hawk. Its breeding range spans eastern North America and along the coast of California to northeastern-central Mexico. Red-shouldered Hawks are permanent residents throughout most of their range, though northern birds do migrate, mostly to central Mexico. The main conservation threat to the widespread species is deforestation.

Adults have brownish heads, reddish chests, and pale bellies with reddish bars. Their tails, which are quite long, are marked with narrow white bars. Red "shoulders" are visible when the birds are perched. These hawks' upper parts are dark with pale spots and they have long yellow legs. Western birds may appear more red, while Florida birds are generally paler. The wings of adults are more heavily barred on the upper side. Juvenile Red-shouldered Hawks are most likely to be confused with juvenile Broad-winged Hawks, but can be distinguished by their long tails, crescent-like wing markings, and a more flapping, Accipiter-like flight style. In direct comparison, it is typically larger and longer proportioned than the Broad-wing, though is slightly smaller and more slender than most other common North American Buteos. This bird is sometimes also confused with the widespread Red-tailed Hawk. That species is larger and bulkier, with more even-sized, broad wings and is paler underneath, with a reddish tail often apparent. The Red-tail is also more likely to soar steadily, with wings in a slight dihedral.

Prior to 1900, the Red-shouldered Hawk was one of the most common North American raptors. Population densities have decreased precipitously due to the clearing of mature forests (principally the wet hardwood forest they prefer) since that time. The changing of habitats has led to a general population increase of the Red-tailed Hawk, an occasional predator of its cousin. Additionally affecting the Red-shouldered Hawk was the greater availability of firearms in the early 1900s, leading to unchecked hunting of this and all other raptor species until conservation laws took effect in the latter half of the 20th century. Local forest regrowth and the ban of hunting has allowed Red-shouldered Hawk populations to become more stable again and the species is not currently considered conservation dependent. In Florida, the Red-shouldered Hawk is perhaps the most commonly seen and heard raptor species. However, human activity, including logging, poisoning from insecticides and industrial pollutants, continue to loom as threats to the species.

We are along the East Broad Top for it's annual rail fan weekend in October of 2001. This shot of the last train of the "day" as it heads north was an attempt to recreate a shot in color that I took in as a pan shot with higher speed B&W seven years earlier.

That can be seen here:

Not setting the world on fire, it did not come out anywhere near my satisfaction of the original due to the slower speed film, but with the magic of today's "dark room" I was able to make it into something of interest, at least to me anyway.

This U.S. Marine Corps KC-130J was performing touch-and-go’s. The Lockheed Martin KC-130J is a variant of the C-130J Hercules, which is a recent version of the venerable C-130 Hercules. The Marines call the KC-130J the “BattleHerk.” In addition to carrying troops and cargo, the KC-130J is also a tanker for aerial refueling, a reconnaissance platform, and an attack aircraft. The housing under the nose contains infrared and electro-optical sensors and missiles can be mounted on the wings. This aircraft is with the Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 (VGMR-252) based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point (North Carolina). Seen at Eugene F. While taking a break from walking around Chicago, I snapped this pic of some gentlemen playing chess.

Since its first release in 1982, Touch has created sonic and visual productions that combine innovation with a level of care and attention that has made it the most enduring of any independent music company of its time. The first period up to the digitalization of music in the mid-80's saw the release of several cassette magazines, where sounds by luminaries such as New Order, Cabaret Voltaire and The Residents were paralleled by visual work and writing by Neville Brody, Jon Savage, Joseph Beuys and many others. As the industry went through its usual elaborate cycles of self-annihilation and rebirth, Touch adapted to incorporate new technologies with the old, underscoring the power and necessity of editing and presentation to bring the best out of each production.

Now working extensively with Fennesz, Chris Watson, Philip Jeck, Biosphere, BJNilsen, Oren Ambarchi and many others, Touch celebrated its 20th year in 2001 with a UK CMN-backed tour, including sell-out dates in Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, Newcastle, Salisbury and the QEH in London. The transitions from analogue to digital, from camera-ready artwork to broadband file-sharing and from 1/4' masters to website downloads are only the surface manifestations of the great changes that have taken place in recorded music over the last 25 years. Touch has been at the forefront of these changes, and will continue to be. Therefore, Touch is a welcome guest at TodaysArt.

Led by Mike Harding, Touch will be doing a QA in the Filmhuis during the festival, where anybody who is interested will get the chance to talk with the people from Touch, including the artists, some who will be performing at TodaysArt (Hildur Gudnadottir / Biosphere / Jana Winderen / Philip Jeck).
