When I snapped this photo I was planning on finishing up after Stu cut the grass with the riding lawn mower. He can't get as close to the trees as I can with the push mower. My mower wasn't as low as the one Stu used, therefore, I have greener patches than he did. This mower is self propelled so all i do is pull on the handle and it moves faster. It really does make quick work of the grass. I'm also making my way down into the culvert so we can plant wildflowers in there next spring.

When I first met Marian, he had been imprisoned in a pediatric hospital in rural Romania, abandoned by his mother. The abandonment rate in this county of Romania is 6 percent. Marian was not identified in the hospital, he had no name. Some of the nurses had started calling him Marian. There were so many children there side by side, all abandoned. Marian had no legal papers, he did not even exist on record. Who was Marian Did no one even care? How could this even be possible? Arrangements were made for him to get legal papers so we could care for him properly.
Marian had never been touched except to have his diaper changed, and this didn't happen often. He was not held when he was fed. He had never seen a toy and was terrified by human touch, the very thing he needed. He could not pull himself up even though he was over 2 years old, and his feet had never touched the floor. He spent his days banging his head on the lead painted crib bars. Then they moved him to what we considered a steel cage. There was no other way he could comfort himself except rocking and banging his head, for his cries were silent tears, there was no one to run to him to console him. No one to love him. The only human contact he would allow without becoming completely terrified was a hand outstretched through the crib bars. Marian had never smiled.
Marian was rescued from this baby prison and taken to the House of Angels emergency shelter where this photo was taken. There began his rehabilitation. This summer I was able to take Marian for a walk in the grass for the first time in his life. The grass tickled his legs and feet. He held my hand, finally made eye contact and giggled and belly laughed.
Marian may never fully recover psychologically or physically, and I blame the Romanian government for their lack of concern for the children of their very future. Marian could have been a normal child. Marian will never reach his full potential as he is still held captive as a ward of the state. He has now been moved to governmental foster care. I pray that government somehow understands the damage they are inflicting upon these children and that they open their eyes into this century and stop these human rights violations!
Pray for adoptions to open again as these children need permanent forever families!
Let Marian teach you to open your heart, hands and eyes and let Marian's tragic story teach you to take your children into your arms, and never want to let go. Always cherish them. Always touch them, hug them. Always love.
