SELF PORTRAIT WITH WOUNDS ON TWO LEGS - after a few months of picking at my legs again I finally went into the hospital mid-December after one wound was becoming infected. I’ve been on IV antibiotics since then, even having to come in on Christmas Day. I’ve also been on oral antibiotics and expect to be on those into the middle of January.
I pick and scratch thanks to the depression that hasn’t gone away. One of the wound clinic doctors said there were meds that could help me lose the desire to scratch at my wounds… he was going to make a referral but I haven’t heard back about anything yet.
I feel broken when I do this. It’s like the junk food I consume. There’s a compulsion behind it that I can’t control. It’s like the insomnia that keeps me up at night, and causes me to sleep all day. One day I need to get up early and push myself to make it through the day during normal hours, no matter how tired I feel. Then maybe I’ll sleep at night normally.
