'The Perception of Mary' MFD (April 2015)
Bit of explanation on this one. I have always been interested in the stories of the many servicemen and women who were sent to exotic paradises on the other side of the world only to witness the devastation of countless atomic and thermonuclear tests through the immediate post war decades. I have long hoped that one day the nuclear test veterans might see justice from the state particularly as many of them later suffered unimaginable illnesses which may have resulted from radiological exposure to radiological from those tests.
One story in particular I always remember was that of the witnesses who covered their eyes with their hands when detonation occurred only to still see straight through their closed eyelids and the flesh, blood vessels and bones of their hands like an x-ray.
This is my interpretation of how it might have looked to someone closing their eyes against the blast.
