C'est un écorché de l’art moderne,un travailleur acharné au service d’une sensibilité abstraite. Il est sans doute l’un des peintres les plus mystérieux du XXe siècle. Sa carrière aura la fulgurance d’un météore, dont la course se terminera à Antibes, où il se suicidera à l’âge de 41 ans. Cette fin tragique occulte quelque peu la figure d’un artiste en constant questionnement, inspiré par la couleur et la lumière, fiévreux d’écriture comme de peinture. Une vie de romantique au XXe siècle.

Nicolas de Stael is one of my favorite painters. He was born in St Petersburg in 1913 and died in Antibes in 1955.
He is a flayed of modern art, a hard worker in the service of an abstract sensibility. He is undoubtedly one of the most mysterious painters of the 20th century. His career will have the dazzling effect of a meteor, whose race will end in Antibes, where he will commit suicide at the age of 41. This tragic end somewhat obscures the figure of an artist in constant questioning, inspired by color and light, feverish in writing as in painting. A romantic life in the 20th century.
