The old house of Vasily Kalashnikov (please do not confuse with the creator of the weapon - Mikhail Kalashnikov) is located in the historical part of Uglich. Today, the building of the 18th century houses three expositions - the Glass Museum, a teahouse with a Russian stove and samovars, and a designer's office that tells about his life and inventions. Kalashnikov designed bulk barges for transporting kerosene, designed blowers and superheaters - devices for a steam engine - and developed an innovative model of a steam engine, for which he was awarded a medal at the All-Russian Industrial Exhibition in Moscow in 1882.
Architectural features of the Kalashnikov house
It is not known exactly when the house in which Kalashnikov was born was built. The building was already listed in the General Plan of Uglich in 1784, which provided for new street roads. Many old estates remained inside the quarters, and the Kalashnikov house was on the outer line of the new square - in front of the Epiphany Monastery.
The front part of the old two-story house was built of stone, while the rest were cut from wood. The facade was decorated in the same way as it was customary to decorate wooden houses: the windows were decorated with platbands with small cornices - sandriks. Tiles were inserted into the corner ledges of the house, which was a very original architectural solution for the 18th century. Since then, the house has changed little: only a high wooden roof was rebuilt here, making it flatter, and a major overhaul with restoration was carried out.
Museum collection
Today, there are three exhibition halls in the house: the Glass Museum, Vasily Kalashnikov's office and an exposition that tells about the Russian culture of tea drinking. The Museum of Glass contains exhibits of the 18th – 20th centuries - antique mirrors, stained glass windows, lamps, porcelain and glassware: glasses and decanters, damask and glasses. Kalashnikov's office was restored the way it was during the life of the designer. Here you can see antique furniture and icons, family photographs and fragments of manuscripts. Guests are told about the tradition of tea drinking in a separate room with a Russian stove. Its exposition includes samovars, teapots and porcelain tea sets.

Europäische Hornisse (Vespa crabro)
!!! IHR BESTAND IST IN DEUTSCHLAND BEDROHT !!!
Bei der Europäischen Hornisse ist der Kopf rötlich bis schwarz gefärbt. Der Thorax der Europäischen Hornisse ist rotbraun mit eine schwarzen, v-förmigen Zeichnung. Die vorderen Segmente sind rotbraun und schwarz, zur Spitze hin weißt sie die wespentypische schwarze Zeichnung auf gelbem Grund auf.
Körpergröße:
Königin: bis 40 mm
Arbeiterin: bis 25 mm
Männchen: bis 28 mm
Verbreitung:
Mitteleuropa bis Süd-Skandinavien und Britische Inseln
Ernährung:
Arbeiterinnen: „Süßes“: Baumsäfte, Nektar, Fallobst, Honigtau
Larven: „Eiweißreiches“: Insekten
Nistplatz:
Wettergeschützte Hohlräume: Baumhöhlen, Nistkästen, Dachböden oder Rollladenkästen
Nestgröße:
Je nach Platzangebot ca. 60 x 30 cm. Reicht der Platz am Hauptnest nicht aus, wird eine weitere „Filiale“ oft in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Hauptnest errichtet.
Volksstärke:
Zum Höhepunkt der Volksentwicklung im Hochsommer/Frühherbst, zählt ein Volk etwa 400 - 700 Individuen.
Verhalten:
Im Vergleich zu anderen Faltenwespen sehr friedfertig: Europäische Hornissen greifen den Menschen nie grundlos an und stechen nur bei Verteidigung zu.

In the case of the European hornet, the head is dyed reddish to black. The thorax of the European hornet is reddish brown with a black, v-shaped drawing. The front segments are reddish brown and black, towards the top they can see the spre-typical black drawing on yellow ground.

Worker: Up to 25 mm
Males: Up to 28 mm
Dissemination:
Central Europe to Southern Scandinavia and British Isles
Diet:
Workers: "Sweet": Tree juices, nectar, fallobst, honeydew
Larvae: "Protein-rich": Insects
Nestsite:
Weather-protected cavities: Tree caves, nesting boxes, attics or roller shutter boxes
Nest size:
Depending on the space available about 60 x 30 cm. If the place at the main nest is not sufficient, another "branch" is often built in the immediate vicinity of the main nest.
Popular strength:
At the peak of popular development in the high summer/early autumn, one population counts about 400-700 individuals.
Behavior:
Very peaceful compared to other wrinkle wasps: European hornets never attack humans for no reason and only attack in defence.

Walsh County is a photogenic spot that, from my point of view, deserves to be included in the Destinations Guide of Secondlife. The creator, Randonee Noel, was inspired by a real place - Walsh County in North Dakota - that describes itself on the official website as "a land of prairies, cropland, river valleys, and rolling hills" where agriculture is the main economic activity of the region.
