Building a Christmastree bonfire - Kerstboomverbranding (Hellevoetsluis/NL)
The traditional Christmas tree burning in Hellevoetsluis is always a very nice event. It starts with the Christmas tree hunt for the children to earn lottery tickets. The municipality as an organizer collects about 1000 Christmas trees that are burned as a large fire under the supervision of the fire brigade on the Zuidfront or Land van Paling. It attracts more and more visitors over the years, children win some nice prizes with the raffle tickets and the atmosphere is very nice. It is actually also the warm welcome of the year, especially with the glow of the fire of 1300 degrees Celsius

The traditional Christmas tree burning is an annual event that takes place the week after Epiphany. According to tradition, January 6 is the date on which the Christmas tree is taken down. Then it is Epiphany, the day on which, according to the Bible, the three Magi from the East arrived in Bethlehem. This holiday symbolizes the end of the Christmas celebration. The Christmas tree burning event is then organized by the municipality, ensures that the trees are collected and plans an evening often attended by many spectators. The event is often enhanced by music and there are stalls selling snacks and drinks. A festive tradition with a warm welcome for the new year.
