Sometimes we have to allow a subject to grow before it is interesting. In today's scenario, our subject is a sweet potato. I was not sure how to go about lighting said dicotyledonous, so I played around with the light for a bit. I lit it from the side, but the light falloff left the other side in darkness. Not very interesting. I finally decided to light from above....and slightly behind our little bindweed. I obviously wanted to focus on the growth, but did not want to neglect the mole-like root itself. He is lit by a small softbox from directly above, hence the rather abrupt light falloff. To remedy the darkness in the lower half, I used a piece of foamcore to bounce some of the light on to the bottom half of the root. Simple lighting for a simple subject.
