Juniperus squamata 'Holger' 22W51 Singleseed Juniper R3-

Juniperus squamata 'Holger' 22W51 Singleseed Juniper R3- (Holger Jensen, Sweden 1946) Singleseed Juniper, Size at 10 years: 2x4ft., yellow tipped new growth maturing to blueish green, USDA Hardiness Zone 4-7, Michigan Bloom Month -, In Garden Bed R3 for 4.3 YEARS (Lowes,). Planted in 2018.

Missouri Botanical Garden: 'Holger' is a compact, densely-branched, spreading shrub that typically grows to 1-3' tall and 3-4' wide, but in some conditions may eventually reach 5' by 5' after 10 years. It is noted for its yellow new growth that creates an attractive bicolor foliage effect in spring. New foliage emerges yellow-tipped, eventually maturing to blue-green by summer.

Juniperus squamata is commonly called singleseed juniper because the seed cone contains only one seed. It is native to mountainous areas from Afghanistan to Taiwan. Dwarf, 1-6 inches per year.

American Conifer Society: Juniperus squamata 'Holger' is a moderate-to-large, spreading selection of Scaly juniper that retains a flat top of 3 to 5 feet (1 - 1.5 m) tall and grows as wide. Fresh new growth in spring is sulfur-yellow, gradually turning silver Blue. With moderate care its first year in the ground, it will establish a good root system that will nourish a care-free specimen plant that can withstand drought and wind. It is striking in winter when its strong branches can support a considerable snow load.

Juniperus squamata 'Holger' is believed to be a hybrid of Juniperus squamata and Juniperus × pfitzeriana 'Pfitzeriana Aurea'. The cultivar originated as a seedling selected in 1946 by Holger Jensen of Ramloesa Nursery, Helsingborg, Sweden.

I have staked this specimen in 2019. Time will tell.
