Taxus x media 'Densiformis' 22W48 Yew N3-

Taxus x media 'Densiformis' 22W48 Yew N3- (Hoogendoom Nursery, RI 1950s) Dense Yew, Size at 10 years: 4x6ft., Dark green foliage, Red fruit, USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Michigan Bloom Month -, In Garden Bed N3 for 11.4 YEARS (Lowes,). Planted in 2011.

Chicago Botanic Garden: This hybrid yew cultivar is a cross between Japanese yews (Taxus cuspidata) and English yews (Taxus baccata). This particular one is a semi-dwarf, dense, spreading, evergreen shrub that grows to 3-4' tall with a spread of 5-7'. It will tolerate a wide range of conditions from full sun to almost full shade, a wide range of soils as long as they are well drained, but is intolerant of temperature extremes. This is one of the few conifers that can tolerate heavy pruning. Please note that all parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested.

Prune to maintain shape... think balls and cones:) Looks bad in 2012 from the draught. Some winter damage 2013-14. Planted in 2011. Produces red, fleshy, single-seeded fruit instead of cones. 'Densiformis' is a female cultivar, a cross between (Taxus cuspidata) x (Taxus baccata).

2022 note: removed bottom branches to get it off the ground.
