Chicago Botanic Garden: This hybrid yew cultivar is a cross between Japanese yews (Taxus cuspidata) and English yews (Taxus baccata). This particular one is a semi-dwarf, dense, spreading, evergreen shrub that grows to 3-4' tall with a spread of 5-7'. It will tolerate a wide range of conditions from full sun to almost full shade, a wide range of soils as long as they are well drained, but is intolerant of temperature extremes. Picea abies 'Gold Drift' 22W48 Norway Y1- (Bob Fincham 1990) Weeping Norway Spruce, Size at 10 years: 6x2ft., yellow, USDA Hardiness Zone 3, Michigan Bloom Month -, In Garden Bed Y1 for 6.6 YEARS (Stanley). Planted in 2016.
American Conifer Society: In the words of legendary plantsman and ACS founder, Bob Fincham, Picea abies 'Gold Drift' is "unlike anything currently available anywhere." This selection is a golden version of Picea abies 'Reflexa' in that, typical of that cultivar, 'Gold Drift' is a strict-weeping, fast growing spruce that will grow skyward if staked while young or will ramble if left on on the ground. After 10 years, a mature specimen will be 12 to 15 feet (4 - 5 m) tall and 2 feet (60 cm) wide (if staked), suggesting an annual rate of growth of 12 inches (30 cm) or more.
This cultivar originated as a golden sport on a specimen of P. abies 'Inversa' found by Bob Fincham in 1990 at Coenosium Gardens, his personal arboretum and former nursery in Eatonville, Washington. Experience has proven that this plant is not ideal for all parts of the country. For example in the southeastern U.S. the sunlight lacks the intensity to bring out proper color. In the western states, on the other hand, the intensity of the sun gives it a propensity to burn when young, a tendency that decreases with age. 'Gold Drift' was one of three plants selected in 2013 for inclusion into the ACS Collectors' Conifer of the Year Program.
A weeping golden form! Pendulous branches and a drifting (upright) or weeping central leader. Can be staked to form an upright weeper, or untrained to be a cascading mound. Yellow color is more pronounced in full sun, but can burn young plants. Discovered as a sport on 'Reflexa' by Bob Fincham. (Many believe 'Reflexa' and 'Inversa' are the same plant.) ACS Collector's Choice.

Deschampsia cespitosa 'Goldtau' 22W48 Tufted Hair Grass U0- (Mediterranean) Tufted Hair Grass, Mature plant size: 1x1ft., distinctive long-lasting yellow-green flowers., USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Michigan Bloom Month -, In Garden Bed U0 for 191 DAYS (Bluestone). Planted in 2022.
Missouri Botanical Garden: Deschampsia cespitosa, commonly called tufted hair grass, is a clump-forming, cool season grass which is often grown as an ornamental. It typically forms a low, dense tussock (to 16" tall) of very thin (1/5" wide), arching, flat to inrolled, dark green grass blades (to 2' long). Numerous flower stems rise in summer from the foliage mound to a height of 3' bearing wide, airy panicles (to 20" long) of tiny, variably-colored flowers (tones of gold, silver, purple and green) which form a cloud over the foliage that is particularly attractive when backlit. Flower panicles turn yellowish-tan after bloom as the seed ripens and may remain attractive through much of the winter. One of the few ornamental grasses that grows well in shade.
Digging Dog Nursery: Defined by narrow arching deep green foliage, a winsome sturdy mound propels emerald-hued stems, exploding into sheer sprays of distinctive long-lasting yellow-green flowers. The lithe inflorescences exhibit warm bronze tones when mature and provide an enticing winter presence. Smaller and more compact than other cespitosa species, this undemanding, all-purpose grass develops a dense semievergreen habit that can be grouped along a pathway or sited among Echinops ‘Blue Glow’ and Phygelius ‘Peach Trombone’.

Missouri Batanical Garden: 'Gold Cone' is an upright, columnar, slow-growing, evergreen selection which features golden new growth. Foliage emerges bright gold in spring with good color retention occurring throughout summer and early fall. Golden foliage gradually fades to bluish green by winter. This cultivar typically matures to 3-5' tall after ten years. It was introduced into commerce by Kordes Nursery of Bilsen, Germany in 1980.
