Chapter 3: Finale
✨ FINAL entry for the Heroes of Fur and Feather campaign by @brothersbrickofficial ✨
Now safely outside the cave, Fori soon heard the rumors from the other delvers. Delving Day was a ruse, and they were all pawns in some game that he didn’t quite understand. He felt defeated.
As he sat by the cave entrance pondering his next move and whether or not he should return home and admit to his family that he had not proven himself, Fori heard a faint noise coming from the cave. As he moved closer, he could make out the sounds of screams coming from another passageway deep within the tunnels. Delving Day may have been a ruse, but there were still delvers that needed help.
Fori ran back into the cave, following the sounds of the screams. He soon found himself in a chasm similar to the one that he’d escaped from, and quickly noticed there were several more barrel-weavers in this location. A delver had been taken captive by the spiders and was trapped in their web. He was unable to reach them, and the sword he’d recently acquired would be no use here without being able to catch the spiders off-guard.
He looked down at the only other choice that he had - The Guiding Light, his lantern that had been an heirloom of his family for generations, that his entire lineage had trusted to lead them to their future. “It’s time for traditions to die,” Fori thought as he flung the lantern toward the barrel-weavers, where it burst into a cloud of flames. With the spiders distracted, Fori quickly cut the web and released their captive delver. They made their escape through the tunnels of the caves and reunited safely outside.
Fori made new friends that day. Delving Day may have been a ruse, but he had proved himself. He no longer had his lantern, but traditions had worn out their welcome in the Valley anyways. Everything that he’d trusted until this point in his life had been based off of a world that he didn’t know - but as long as they were willing, the heroes of the Valley could rebuild it together and create new traditions.
