Macro Mondays: Condiment

Deciduous, sun-loving, small tree to 15ft. I picked these this morning. The birds like them too so it’s best I check the fruit each day.

There is a huge fig tree in the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (Sarasota, Florida, USA). It’s hard to understand the scale; however, as an example, the roots near the tree’s trunk, would come up to my waist.

This brown fig is decadently sweet, providing flavors of hazelnuts and confectionaries.

when they are on the firm side but ripe I will simmer them in a port wine with cinnamon stick and a clove till they get soft and the alcohol has evaporated, let it cool in the reduction,

Great when it served with French vanilla ice cream,

or your choice of flavor, vanilla is not overpowering.

I had 3 fresh ones already,

I spent a lot of years trying to outrun or outsmart vulnerability by making things certain and definite, black and white, good and bad. My inability to lean into the discomfort of vulnerability limited the fullness of those important experiences that are wrought with uncertainty: Love, belonging, trust, joy, and creativity to name a few.--

Brené Brown

My husband and I started watching Wine Country last night and I was pleasantly surprised to see a cameo by Brené. She's just popping up everywhere in my world.
