Before setting out on this adventure, I had grand visions in my mind of how I would spend my time. I saw myself listening to inspiring podcasts while walking, pictured myself taking frequent breaks for reading while overlooking the ocean and wanted to take detailed notes in my journal every evening. Needless to say, I actually think it’s a shame to not listen to the crashing waves, usually don’t have time for reading if I want to make it to my destination in time and am too tired/lazy in the evening to journal (I’m also distracted by the fact that Season 10 of The Big Bang Theory is on Netflix UK, but not Netflix Germany, but that’s a different story…). But you know what? Self-reflection has still happened. Just being in nature alone has forced me to be present in the moment in ways other mindfulness exercises probably never could and given me greater mental clarity. It’s amazing what nature and some alone time can do, isn’t it? +
