Moe Train's Tracks is a professionally produced music/entertainment/interview podcast based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The podcast was created/hosted by Monty "Moe Train" Wiradilaga in April 2005 merely as an experiment. When asked about why he started podcasting, he replied, "I'm always interested in exploring new forms of media, and new outlets of promotion. I was aware of podcasting, which was still in it's infancy at the time, and figured that I'd try my hand at it. I always considered it my own radio show, but with total creative control... and NO censorship."
The original Moe Train's Tracks #1 included only music from Monty "Moe Train" Wiradilaga, and used as self promotion. Moe Train's Tracks #2 focused on The New Victims, a punk/ska/reggae/hip-hop band from West Chester, PA. Monty "Moe Train" Wiradilaga sang the lead vocals for The New Victims.
However, when Moe Train's Tracks #3 was produced, it was considered to be a revolutionary podcast in it's production. Breaking away from self-promotion, Moe Train's Tracks focused on many worldwide independent artists from all genres, played artist promos in between segments, and had humorous segments. Although this was a very experimental podcast, Moe Train's Tracks got an "unbelievably positive response from listeners, musicians and labels all over the world." The third podcast was the true breakthrough podcast in both music and segments. After the success of this podcast, he was rated #1 in ska, #5 in punk and #7 in reggae on the iTunes Podcast directory which is worldwide. When Apple integrated podcasting in their iTunes software, podcasting literally went from thousands of listeners to millions of listeners overnight.
Monty "Moe Train" Wiradilaga took over a year hiatus after Moe Train's Tracks #4 to work on his solo album. When asked about why he took the hiatus, he responded, "It was time that I focused on my own music. I had always wanted to produce and perform my own solo album, and it was time." Although his solo album had not yet been completed, he felt that it was time to return to podcasting. "There was something inside of me that made me get back behind the mic, but not without making some more positive changes." In June of 2007, Moe Train's Tracks was granted press passes to the world's highest grossing music festival - The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN. "I was blown away at the chance to cover such a heralded festival," Monty "Moe Train" Wiradilaga said.
It was at this point where Wiradilaga decided that he would bring on a co-host. Brian "King B" Kraycla was recruited as the new co-host/"color" for the podcast. The addition of a co-host brought upon an interesting dynamic. "Moe Train" and "King B" previously worked together in a hip-hop/punk band called Team Excelsior where they were extremely outspoken in their music. "It was the logical progression," Wiradilaga said, "We have a great chemistry in person and on the mic. It's a hell of a lot of fun, and we usually enjoy a few drinks in the studio!"
While at the festival, Moe Train's Tracks had exclusive interviews with Ziggy Marley, Bob Weir (The Grateful Dead/Ratdog), Neil Fallon (Clutch), and also interviewed Ben Harper (Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals), Mute Math and The Decemberists. "From what we had seen, we were THE ONLY podcast to officially cover Bonnaroo. What an honor," said Brian "King B" Kraycla.
Two months later in August 2007, Moe Train's Tracks covered Perry Farrell's Lollapalooza in Chicago, Illinois, where they had exclusive interviews with:
* Aston "Family Man" Barrett (original bassist) and Elan of The Wailers, the original backing band for Bob Marley and the Wailers
* G. Love (Lead Vocals/Guitar/Harmonica of G. Love & Special Sauce)
* Ghostland Observatory
* Miles (Vocals/Bass) of Slightly Stoopid
Moe Train's Tracks will be continuing their summer festival coverage at the Vegoose Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will be following the same format as Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.
