In a workshop in Kumartuli, Kolkata's traditional potters quarter, where artisans create idols and deity sculptures for display in temples and on stages across town.
This here was just prior the start of the 'Durga Puja' festival, that celebrates the slaying of a demon king by the mother goddess Durga. The festival is a ritual of worship and the most important event in Kolkata and surrounding province. Essentially it celebrates the triumph of good over evil.
Huge stages are built throughout town with sometime elaborate sculptures consisting of multiple figure groups, representing goddess, gods, demons, animals and more, all fighting it out in beautiful style. The temples and stages attract tens of thousands of people each days and artisans take great pride in crafting the most sophisticated displays. And it all happens here, in the narrow alleys and workshops in Kumartuli.

P.S. this workshop here is just a few meter down the alley from the kids playing soccer (shot published yesterday) and one or two houses next to a portrait of a different sculptor published some time ago.

Die Location hat mich aus mehreren Gründen interessiert Zum einen natürlich weil Lost. Lost? Naja... grundsätzlich sollte man erstmal definieren, wann ein Lost lost ist. Als ich vor Ort war kam schon ein Passant an und hat mich gefragt, wo den mein Model wäre? Fotografen ohne Model sieht man hier ja nie. Womit wir zum zweiten Punkt kommen, warum ich dort mal vorbeischauen wollte. Da ich ja ab und an auch mal Models shoote hat mich die Location ja auch für ein Shooting interessiert
Für ein Shooting werde ich diese Location wohl nicht so nutzen da mir dieser Spot nicht außergewöhnlich genug ist für die Entfernung die ich fahren müsste. Zum anderen kommen meine Models auch alle aus meiner Gegend und die haben halt auch keine Lust auf Weltreisen.
Dennoch hat es mich gefreut den Ort besucht zu haben. Ein schöner Tag war der Trip alle male. =)
