Yangon 26-Jan-2015. Ten years ago today.

Back then in 2015 a cautiously optimistic outlook was tangible everywhere. A feeling of young freedom and hope. The country was opening up slowly, under a still fairly new democratically elected government, the first time since independence from colonial rule long ago. Sadly since 2021 the country is again ruled by another repressive junta, and i can only wonder how the little girl is today and what dreams for the future she holds?

We connected for a brief moment without a spoken word. I was walking the street, attracted by the light and busy coming and going in morning 'rush hour'. A little earlier i had seen many kids here in front of the old building housing amongst others things a school, probably just before 1st classes were about to start. By the time i arrived the kids had gone. But then, the young girl appeared. We just looked at each other with something like equal friendly curiosity. My request for a pic was silent, she just smiled a little and flashed the peace gesture. May peace return ✌

The composition isn't my best, but i like the moment, colour and light. How do you think?

Natur- und Kulturdenkmal AltschlossfelsenDer Name stammt von einer Burg, welche vor vielen hundert Jahren auf die Felsentürme gebaut wurde, nun aber längst zur Ruine zerfallen ist. Mit einer Länge von etwa 1,5 km und einer Höhe von bis zu 35 m, mit seinen bizarren Formen, atemberaubenden Felsüberhängen und im Tageslicht wechselnden Farben beindruckt dieses Felsmassiv.

Yangon in January 2015, ten years ago and much has changed in the country since then. From a cautious but hopeful outlook for opening and more freedom to another repressive junta that took power 4 years ago.

.

What has not changed is the hardship for many normal people; i was so impressed with people's welcoming kindness and innovative resilience, making the most out of sometimes very little. Hoping for positive change.

.

P.S. the building is the same as in the 2 previously published images, here just on another side away from the morning sun, i.e. this here is breakfast probably on the way to work.

Die Trockenmauer Probstenberg befindet sich im Naturpark Thal auf der zweiten Jurakette zwischen Hinter Brandberg und Probstenberg. Die ersten Mauerteile wurden vor über 1000 Jahren gelegt. Die historische Grenzlinie, auf welcher die Mauer steht, bildete ab 1040 die Grenze zwischen der Herrschaft Falkenstein und dem Fürstbistum Basel, ab 1798 sogar die Landesgrenze zwischen der Helvetischen Republik und dem französischen Département du Mont Terrible. Seit 1815 steht die Mauer auf der Kantonsgrenze zwischen Solothurn und Bern. Viele Trockenmauern sind durch die Mechanisierung der Landwirtschaft vielerorts verschwunden oder zerfallen. Rund 400m der Trockenmauer Probstenberg wurden von 2008-2013 in einem Gemeinschafsprojekt des Naturpark Thal und der Stiftung Umwelt-Einsatz Schweiz SUS wiedererstellt. Ziel war, die Tradition des Kunsthandwerks des Trockenmauerns weiterzugeben und für die kulturhistorische und ökologische Bedeutung von Trockenmauern zu sensibilisieren.
