An ad I did for YSL's Brickfish Campaign. The object was to create a "lipstick-inspired" artwork for the debut of their new Rouge Volupté lipstick. The description for it on that page is as follows: "No matter what shade of fabulousness you choose, you will ALWAYS be the center of attention. The model is shown with nine different colors of lipstick--dark and light, fierce and muted, red and nude--on to convey this. Certain parts of her image are different in color to reveal the words "SILKY. SENSUAL. RADIANT.", a running verbal theme of VOLUPTÉ and essentially a rejoice from the beauty community for being bestowed with such a jewel for the lips. A short description of the product follows in a black box below." The text on the picture itself says: "Yves Saint Laurent introduces Rouge Volupté, the silkiest, most radiant you will ever use. This award-winning jewel is sheathed in a sensuous golden case featuring a mirror for on-the-go touch-ups. 18 shades of pure light-reflective voluptuousness: here's looking at you!" Everyone who entered a piece has a shot at winning a whole bunch of prizes, including a trip to NYC, a makeover by a YSL make-up artist, and free YSL make-up products. Year: 2008. Size: N/A. Materials: digital camera, computer w/ ScanSoft's PaperPort SE PageViewer program, Microsoft Office 2001 or higher, and Adobe PDF. Construction: First of all, I want to say that I cannot take any credit for the photo--it must be given to the best photgrapher I know, my best friend and sister. (I was in charge of "directing" the poses and make-up.) She so graciously took a string of photos of our model and I selected the photo I wanted. I downloaded it onto my computer and, using PageViewer, I changed the photo into 10+ colors. I chose the best nine and put them in three rows of three, then using Microsoft Word, layered them over 3 x 3 rows of the original-colored photo in the shape of the words "SILKY. SENSUAL. RADIANT." I then pasted different colored lips (changed w/ PageViewer) onto each photo, and added a textbox with a few words advertising the product. I used PDF to make the collage and its accompanying text one image, then "took a picture" of it via PDF and opened it with PageViewer. From there I converted it into a JPEG file and uploaded it onto the website with five hours to go before the end of the contest!

RIP

It was last june 2008, I spent hours in front of Saint Roch Church to take pictures of Yves Saint Laurent's funerals. I saw a lot of celebrities going out from the church : Catherine Deneuve, Famous Top Models, Yves's mother, his sisters, Frédéric Mitterand, Ariel Domballe, Bernard-Henri Levy............. Then, I went into the church after the funerals - it was full of white flowers and most of the people were robbing these beautiful flowers to bring them back home. I was terribly chocked and disgusted.

Pour toi Cisco qui vient de perdre ta galerie - parce que moi aussi je l'ai perdue et que je sais combien ça fait de la peine.

(for you, Cisco, who has just lost your gallery - because I've lost mine too and because I know how much it hurts)

The Majorelle Garden is a botanical garden in Marrakesh, Morocco. It was designed by

the French artist Jacques Majorelle (1886-1962), in 1924, during the colonial period

when Morocco was a protectorate of France. Though Majorelle's orientalist watercolours

are largely forgotten today (many are preserved in the villa's collection) the garden he created is his creative masterpiece. The special shade of bold cobalt blue which he used extensively in the garden and it's buildings is named after him, bleu Majorelle.

The garden has been open to the public since 1947. Since 1980 the garden has been owned by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé. After Yves Saint-Laurent died in 2008 his ashes were scattered in the Majorelle Garden. The garden also houses the Islamic Art Museum of Marrakesh, whose collection includes North African textiles from Saint-Laurent's personal collection as well as ceramics, jewelry and paintings by Majorelle.

The garden hosts more than 15 bird species, which can be found only in the area of North Africa.
