but sometimes it hurts instead ..

Blogged

It can pay to be small as shown by this bee which can get through the thorns to the flowers on top of this barrel cactus in the Jardin Majorelle. (Zoom in for the fine detail.)

These beautiful gardens in Marrakech, Morocco, were built in the 1930's as part of his art studio by French painter Jacques Majorelle. The property fell into disrepair after his death in 1962, but in 1980 it was saved from developers by Pierre Bergé and fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. It is now held by the Foundation Jardin Majorelle established by Pierre Bergé upon the death of YSL in 2008.

Inspired by the theme of #smell for MacroMondays. I think I can smell this. I lost my sense of smell when my horse threw me when I was 13. Two too many concussions and a skull fracture later, I can now detect some aromas, but not sure if accurate.

At Jardin Majorelle I found these bougainvillea with orange blossoms on a blue wall.

How must it feel when you discover or invent something that bears your name forever? Well, only very few of us will be able to find out for ourselves (it's a pity).

One person who managed to do this, however, was the French painter Jacques Majorelle, in whose former garden we are here and in which, by the way, his studio was also located. His invention, if one may say so, perhaps his creation, was a color that is present everywhere here, Majorelle blue. And even if his works have been somewhat forgotten in the meantime, everyone remembers his name because of this park here.

However, this is not really, or only partially, due to Monsieur Majorelle himself, but to the famous person who bought the park in 1980, in a rather dilapidated state, and restored it to its former glory, the famous French fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent. This name, which is known worldwide, attracts around 850,000 visitors a year, making the Jardin Majorelle one of the most popular sights in all of Morocco.

A detail from Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh. Blue as a dominant color of the buildings in the garden, creates an attractive background for some plants.

" Fashions fade, style is eternal. " ~The King Of Fashion, Yves Saint Laurent

Cacti in the Majorelle Garden just outside Marrakesh. Majorelle was a watercolorist, but these gardens are his creative masterpiece. The garden has been open to the public since 1947. In 1980 the garden was owned by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Berge. After the death of Yves Saint Laurent in 2008, his ashes were scattered in the garden, where there is a commemorative memorial dedicated to him. There is a tiny bit of the museum painted in Majorelle Blue in this picture.

Some rest and relaxation from the hectic of Marrakesh can be found in the Jardin Majorelle. It was created by the French artist Jacques Majorelle in the 1930s. In the 1980s, the property was purchased by the fashion designers, Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Bergé who worked to restore it. Today, the garden and a villa complex is open to the public. Tickets must be pre-ordered.

The light at the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit in places was challenging, so this photo is somewhat grainy. But the clothes were fantastic. I remember having a jacket (not a Saint Laurent) styled like the one on the right many years ago.

This gallery was an amazing installation as a color pallet of Saint Laurent's fashions. Photographed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia, USA. The low lights in the galleries often make my photo's captured with my small Canon a bit grainy. But it's all about the memory of this amazing exhibit.
