Down the street. from the Robert E. Lee Monument on Monument Ave. was the J.E.B. Stewart statue - Stewart was Confederate General who famously known for thwarting the John Brown uprising at Harper's Ferry, WV. That evening I witnessed the protester string up the statue and began to rock it off it's pedestal. However, the police arrive right before the statue was about to topple, disrupting the activity. This was the scene just prior to the police using tear gas.

This is an example of the protesters' messages spray painted on some local area monuments. This statue of Farragut (a US Naval hero) is at Farragut Square. Of course, the statue has been cleaned.

Rokinon 500mm 6.3 lens - This cheap lens (about $150USD) is great as long as you have A LOT of LIGHT like sun light. You have to get used to handling it because it's a manual focus lens.
People came out by the hundreds to make sure their voices were heard.

On Father's Day, 2020, I decided to take a drive to Richmond, VA. I heard about the protest there so I had to check it out for myself. Richmond, specifically Monument Ave, became a target during the BLM 2020 protest because Monument Ave. possessed more Confederate memorials than any where else in the USA and calls for their removal grew. The center of attraction was the 61' tall statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee on horseback looking southward. Being the tallest and the most prominent on Monument Ave. made it the prime candidate to be the center piece of protest art. Artists painted graffiti and messages as high as they can reach on the statue. People scaled the monument to take photos in protest. This photo is one of protesters who felt compelled to have his photo taken - a powerful shot.

Spring has finally broken in the District. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the monument grounds are busting with tourists and locals. This is a very beautiful time of the year.

History shows that the origins of policing in this country has had a very specific reason and purpose. As an outgrowth from slavery and post Reconstruction, policing in this country has been slow to change for some groups of citizens. This ulgy history surfaced once more as a result of the George Floyd murder at the hands of the police.
