The results on the third rock are more readable. It still has quite a bit of surface variation so it is not as legible as one would like, but the contrast is pretty good. The other thing I'm finding is that font size is important. If this rock had more surface area, a larger font would have improved legibility.

A laser cut box to use for storing receipts in my desk.

For the past 27 years I've been using a shoe box in one of my desk drawers to store receipts during the year. This was the last time we got a shoe box that would fit in the drawer.

I made the box shown to replace that box. It is 0.2 inch plywood with some fun graphics added. For years I had considered ways to replace the cardboard box, but really hadn't come up with a reasonable approach that would be a reasonable expenditure of time and effort for the application. The laser system solved that problem and this is the result.

The clock as originally engraved. Visibility of the features is angle dependent. Adding some form of embellishing wax fixes that and brings out the details.

Dimensional view to show scale of the cardboard valentine truck

I have a Table Saw Aligner designed by Ed Bennett back in the 90's. It is a very useful tool for aligning table saws, jointers, and other shop machinery and very flexible. However, ever since I bought it in 1997, it has lived in the corrugated cardboard box in which it was shipped to me and I've always thought that it needed a better storage method.

This laser-cut box is now the new home for this tool. It is cut from 1/4" luann plywood. The following pictures show additional detail.
