When I finally managed to return to flickr I saw some wonderful images of this sim, so thank you to Annie Klavinham, Ziki Questi and others for sharing your images and the location.
I spent a long time exploring, and each step there was something new - the way the light changed, a detail, an angle - to delight the eye.
This is somewhere that will repay repeated visits.

Xeno Crab - Anilao Philippines
Wrapped in spirals of living whip coral, this xeno crab becomes almost indistinguishable from its host. Look closely—camouflage has never been so artistic.

What is this thing? Xeno - From a foreign place, or different in origin. Has anyone seen one of these things before? It is some kind of mechanical typing device. No monitor or anything with it! Taken in the Club Lounge at The Langham Chicago (well worth the elevator ride up to floor 12C).

Thanks to all of you, for the views, faves and wonderful comments. They are all truly appreciated.

I keep hearing the twittering song of Linnet wherever I go at the moment. Here it is on Xeno Canto: www.xeno-canto.org/353436 Its song led to its popularity as a cagebird in the days when it was legal to catch wild birds and appears in the lyrics of the old music hall song "My Old Man" (I followed on with my old cock linnet).
There has been a widespread Linnet decline across Europe since 1980 but the decline in Britain started in the late 1960s. It has always been a bird dependent on arable land but changes to farming practice have taken their toll. Increasing specialisation from mixed farming resulted in many "agriculturally-unnecessary" hedgerows being removed, depriving Linnets of nesing sites and cover. More serious was the switch to autumn-sown cereals which removed winter-stubbles where Linnets fed during winter. The well-grown autumn cereals also squeezed out arable weeds which germinate in spring providing seeds as food. Even the name Linnet comes from a former arable crop Linseed (Linum), as does its scientific name; Linaria cannabina, the last part being named after the crop Hemp. This is quite a brightly coloured male so will be at least two years old as one year olds are duller. This one was photographed on a lichen encrusted drystone wall in the West Yorkshire part of the Peak District recently. He was unusually confiding as they are often skittish, which may be a legacy of them being caught as cage birds.

The familiar sound of Coal Tit singing is teacher-teacher-teacher www.xeno-canto.org/637507 though they sometimes sing variants like cher-teach-cher-teach, but it is usually two notes repeated. I managed to capture this bird in full song in a Scot's Pine plantation in the Peak District.
Coal Tits are the smallest of the true tit family in Britain. They are about 12cm bill to tail, and weigh about 9g, which is a couple of grams lighter than Blue Tit. I specified the "true" tit family (Great, Blue, Coal, Crested, Marsh and Willow Tits) because Long-tailed Tit weighs about the same but is in a completely different family. There are about 660,000 breeding pairs in Britain but that is much rarer than Blue Tits with 3.4 million pairs. They are quite dependent on conifers which might explain their relative scarcity compared to Blue Tit. They have a very wide distribution right across Europe and Asia. Their typical habitat is conifers but a pair can breed around a single conifer. Their nest is surprisingly hard to find (compared with Blue Tits). They usually nest low down, sometimes in a hole in the ground among tree roots. And they are also surprisingly hard to photograph too. They are always on the move, even at bird feeders they'll often snatch food and fly off immediately.
Painted one of my Xeno Warrior sets for a friend, so here it is.
Very fun set to paint and I think I pretty much finished it in around 4-5 sittings.
Started with some spray on grey primer, then went with a very, very dark grey base coat (intentionally not black) and then dry brushed with some good old Leadbelcher. I've never had so much fun dry brushing, as this thing just comes to life.
After that, I used about 4 gallons of Nuln Oil, then went over with a little more dry brushing with some Ironbreaker and finally sealed with a heavy coat of gloss varnish.
I might try the next one with some blue glaze, as I ended up using a blue filter on the shot anyway ; )
Hope you like it.
