GHA Coaches Leyland Olympian / Alexander K130 DAO turns out of Llanrhaeadr in the beautiful Vale of Clwyd operating service X50 to Wrecsam (Wrexham) in May 2016. This lengthy journey began in Rhyl as an X52 before the change of route number at Denbigh. Now but a memory, the operator is no more after entering into administration during July, and the bus has recently been sold - destination scrapyard.
Connexions have this former Cardiff scania bendi with names now applied in appropriate position. Seen here in Otley operating the x52 to Harrogate. Ive seen some vehicle types in Otley over the years but this takes some beating!

3128 empty fuel from Bomen to Clyde Yard is seen here ascending The Great Dividing Range. Pictured is X51 (not powering), X50, X52, 48114 and 4899 (both 48 Class dead attached).
This would be the final run of 3128 - Shell would close their fuel loading gantry at their Sandown site early in 2010 leaving Caltex nowhere to load their wagons (fuel was piped from their refinery at Kurnell). The leading NTAF wagon was an empty wagon from the fuel point at Cootamundra with the balance of the train being empty tank wagons from Bomen (Wagga Wagga).
X51 is now a shunter with SCT Logistics whilst X50 and X52 are in storage. 48114 was eventually scrapped, whilst 4899 was sold to GrainCorp and overhauled to become 48203.

GHA Coaches Volvo B10BLE / Wright Renown R217 HCD is pictured in Rhyl bus station working route X52 to Denbigh, still carrying the livery of its previous operator, Brighton & Hove, where it was numbered 217. This later got repainted into GHA fleet livery.
My final batch of shots from the Jurassic coast feature a host of their double decks, now getting a little long in the tooth, but having had given the fleet many years of fantastic service.
First up, here is 37582, one of the 2008 Volvo B9TLs, on an X52 for Lyme Regis in Seaton.
GHA Coaches Optare Solo YJ59 NMX is pictured in Vale Road, Rhyl, on an inbound X52 from Denbigh. The photo was taken in rapidly fading light at 8:55pm on the evening of Wednesday 13th July, the final day of operation before the company abruptly ceased trading with minimum warning.
The trio of former Southampton, Volvo B7TL, Alexander ALX400, partial open top conversions have served Weymouth well, no doubt outliving their expected use as open tops.
It's fair to say these appear to have covered on the X50 and X52 services well the last couple of years, when all three examples would be out between all open top services.
Not expected to return for the 2025 season, but anything is possible!
OIG 6947 is on the last leg of the scenic run to Portland Bill, on the Portland Coaster.
Norrtåg (operated by Svenska Tågkompaniet AB): the EMU ABT 9062 (Class X52, Regina type built by ADtranz, then Bombardier) leaves the Gällivare station, working the regional train 7165 from Kiruna to Luleå C.

Before the arrival of the current low floor stock used in the X50/X52 services between Wrexham and Rhyl, some interest vehicles found use. Here we have Leyland Olympian / ECW working the college related working from Yale College in Wrexham to Denbigh on a X50 service (where it changed to a X52 to Rhyl). A quickly grabbed effort at Ruthin before I ran up the hill to catch a ride on it to Rhyl and back.
Leyland Olympian action in Rhyl sees Voel Coaches Northern Counties bodied K580 RRH passing GHA Coaches Alexander-bodied K130 DAO at Rhyl Sealife Centre. The former is on route PS1 to Prestatyn Bus Station while the latter is on route X52 to Dinbych (Denbigh).
At the last minute, I decided to make a quilt for the silent auction at my son's preschool. Quilt is totally inspired by this. Okay, so maybe slightly more than "inspired." Maybe I mean "nearly totally lifted". But I loved the quilt, I had oranges on hand, and it's gender neutral. I hope CrazyMomQuilts is okay with this. Finished size will be 41"x52". I reduced my bricks even further, to 3.5" for the white and 3.5"x6.5" for the colors.
Does anybody remember the swedish freight operator RushRail? Their operation didn't last more than a couple of years.
In 2014 RushRail's Traxx 185 410 awaits its logtrain to be fully loaded at Ljusdal with Xtåget X52 9046 in the background.
Two Volvo B7RLEs remain in the purple colours - one of which is 69552. The former Hoeford Volvo B7RLEs have already proven popular on the Jurassic Coastliner routes, with at least three on the X51, X52 or X53 most days. The two purple ones are regulars. 69552 is pictured heading to Axminster having arrived from Weymouth on an X53, in Lyme Regis.
GHA Coaches Leyland Olympian / Alexander K130 DAO is pictured in Rhyl working route X52 to Dinbych (Denbigh). When GHA first established this route in 2007, this bus was a regular performer. It is one of a batch of three (14229-31) acquired by GHA from Stagecoach in Cumbria.

One of the once strong batch of Volvo B7TL, Plaxton Presidents that once plied their trade in West Cornwall for Land's End. It's fair to say they were very battle worn towards the end, all the 'MIG' plates moved to Dorset for the 2023 season, only one gained the excellent Jurassic Coaster livery, and it certainly suits the President bodywork.
2024 and MIG 8433 survives as the sole example of this type not only in Dorset but with First still in service. In this view the intended open top had failed if I recall and MIG 8433 was pressed to cover the last run to Bridport and as a result is a good 30 minutes late on the scenic climb up Abbotsbury Hill. MIG tended to have a X50 diagram the week I visited and the only variation I saw it do. I did sample it on the X52 the previous summer.
During the winter sports season the little station of Duved becomes quite busy: Norrtåg X52 9042 (Reg 7667), night train Veolia 3901, SJ Rc6 1418 (for charter night train 81375)
Värmlandstrafik X52 9066 departs from Kil as train 8930 (Charlottenberg - Karlstad C) on April 27, 2022, 22:28.
Connexions have this former Cardiff omnicity CN57BHZ running around and i guess waiting its turn in the paintshop. It is seen operating the X52 from Harrogate to Otley approaching Pool. With a running time of 28 minutes and 2 minutes layover at each end linked with a 940 at Otley it is in for a hard day by any standards. I used to enjoy driving M954DRG up and down that stretch, it was a bus built for that kind of road.
GHA Coaches MPD V8 GHA in Llangollen Express livery passes through Bodelwyddan on route X52 to Denbigh.
Open toppers make it to Bridport, even on miserable, rainy August days. 32031 began its days in service at Southampton as one of First's first low floor double decks in the city, but now is enjoying its latter years on the seafront at Weymouth. However, the three similar buses are often pressed in to service on the X52 from Bridport to Bovington, rather than the Portland open topper - not bad for 21 year old buses. Not many takers for the outer deck here.
GHA Coaches Alexander-bodied Leyland Olympians K129 DAO and K130 DAO are seen together at Rhyl Sealife Centre. The former is laying over while the latter is setting off on route X52 to Dinbych (Denbigh). These were previously Stagecoach in Cumbria 14229 and 14230 and both were victims of the floods which engulfed Carlisle depot in January 2005. The pair were immediately withdrawn and subsequently sold by Stagecoach to GHA, and it is doubtful they would still be in service now if fate had not intervened so suddenly.
This particular Volvo B7TL, Wright Eclipse Gemini, already seems well travelled since been converted to part open top conversion. The covering I understand was grafted on from a scrap bus by Thorntons Bus Refurbishment after it was deroofed with its original owner, First West Yorkshire.
YJ06 XMK has originally arrived as an extra bus in Cornwall for the Atlantic Coaster, before been rebranded as a Land's End Coaster, it moved onto Somerset for the Exmoor Coaster service for a few years and subsequently or by odd choice ended up in Dorset! The previous Exmoor Coaster branding has been removed, that having been altered on the Cornish graphics for a scene of Porthcurno on the side :)
I sampled this bus on this service, X52 Weymouth to Bridport and can say it handled the conditions well. I have previously sampled it in Somerset and Cornwall. It will be interesting if it lingers on into the 2025 season (with sister buses been in South Wales for the Tenby run), but surely a repaint is out of the question!
