Capturing world famous iconic monuments is always an Herculean task because of a very simple reason – there are a billions of great compositions already out there and you really have to come up with something new to have your shots stand out. I just got back from a trip to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. It was more of a sightseeing than a photography trip. We did not get to spend a lot of time at any of these tourist spots and were surrounded by the omnipresent crowd, especially at the Taj where there were around 100000 people. We also choose the worst day. Read more with more pictures

This shot was taken in a recent wedding assignment in Coimbatore. I loved this shot and there is an interesting story behind the same. I was waiting for the bride to turn her head in this way. I wanted her to face to the left side, where the light from the videographer is coming from and for a fraction of second when she did turn I did not wait to click the shutter.

I have been wanting to do a concept with a pregnant model for a long time where I can capture the phases of a lady in the process of becoming a mother but I couldn't find anyone who was ready to try it out mainly because photographing a pregnant lady and a new born is still a no no in many families here in India. Finally when I let Ms. C know about the idea and she was totally up for it.

First a shot like this not only needs planning but there are other factors involved which makes it really tough to execute. With all the travel I do and the physical condition of the model we were able to overcome the odds and shoot once every 3 months. We ended up shooting at the 3rd, 6th, 9th months and 20 days after giving birth. I should thank both the mother and the baby for cooperating and making this idea a reality.

With a torn mattress and a car tire the kids in Kasimedu(a slum for fishermen) were doing summersaults like pros. These talents almost always goes unused. If only they are groomed well and they had proper channels to tune in !!

A ring shot is always on my list of must-have pictures when Im shooting a wedding. Here's one from the latest wedding that I shot. The outdoor setup made it really hard to get the ring in focus since it was too windy and the wire wasn't hanging still.

A picture that I have been waiting for a long time to upload. This was taken manually. No CG involved. It was 7 different shots merged together using masking in Photoshop.

We choose a famous tourist spot called Kerry Park that has a magnificent view of Seattle lit up like a jewel at night. We did one letter at a time and made a composite picture to get the final result.

A fun part of this experiment was to learn to paint the letters in the reverse. Since you are standing behind the letters as you write them, you need to picture them in reverse for them to be formed correctly for the viewer when the pictures are taken. It took a lot of practice and experimentation to get all the letters similar height, properly spaced, and readable. I love the results and had a fun time doing it. I’m fairly sure people watching us had fun trying to figure out what we were doing as it’s almost impossible to tell by watching us in the park that night.

I have been very fortunate to travel extensively in the last one year so much so that some times the crew knows me by name. I got to see 10 times more places in the last one year than I have seen in the first 20 years of my life in India. When I travel I love to take the inner roads and get a sense of people living there and try to get into conversation with them. It gives me a chance to understand different thought process from different people. It also gives me a chance to compare the different cultures and their habits. Here's one shot to emphasize the same. This is one such comparison. A picture from the kitchen of North and a kitchen from the south.

In this picture you can compare how so many things are different starting from the dress, the way they have been worn, the vessels to the direction in which the stove is pointing towards.

If you have been following me for a long time you would know that I'm a big fan of color but at times some special pictures come by where B&W does justice to the image. This is a special one where I thought the colors is just not the way to go.

This picture of a priest carrying the prasadham to offer to the god was taken in Kundrakudi, Sivangangai District - Tamil Nadu. The colors and the patterns on the steps which contrasted with the colors on the priest's dress made me take this shot.

I have been trying to capture some of the well known and symbolistic monuments of Chennai for the last one week. This was for a prototype of a project that I’m working on. I have roped in the best photo editor I know of, Ayashok for this. Our goal was not to make the picture a vintage one but to give the present view a rustic makeover as the project called for a subtle and Read more with more pictures and a list other chennai landmarks and monumnets here

Its summer in India and its a time to stay indoors during the day. Also this is my first summer in India after 9 years so the heat it taking its toll on me. Added to it the humidity makes me sweat as if I was born to. Fortunately this has given me time to do some projects indoor and work on a couple of projects that I have been putting off for a long time now. One of them is a food photography project for a very famous Client in Chennai who are into Indian sweets and have just launched some baked products.
