Snapshot of SSgt. Joseph F LaFrance (called “Joe” or “Frenchy”) sitting in the cockpit of an unidentified airplane during World War II. He served during WWII in the 730th Bombardment Squadron, 452nd Bombardment Group (Heavy), 8th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Forces. LaFrance was the tail gunner of a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber airplane nicknamed “Invictus.” He was downed over Germany on March 8, 1944, and he was captured as a prisoner of war (POW). Photograph taken when he was 23 years old. LaFrance served with AAF gunner Benjamin W. Robertson of Plymouth, N.C., in the plane that got shot down on March 8, 1944 (undated).

This collage of WWII posters gives students an idea about the impact and changes in American culture. Women entering the workforce forever changed the face of the American economy. There were so many changes that took place during WWII and this poster gives studetns a good start to exploring the effects of WWII

2011 WWII Reenactment Days at Midway Village, Rockford, IL. The largest in the country over 1,200 reenactors participated.

This WWII propaganda poster was made by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company to encourage their employees to continue to work to help with the war effort. The poster features very vibrant colors, making it attractive despite the clown. This object is in the collection at The Mariners' Museum (LN 06).
