¡¡Sonríe!!

Sonríe siempre. Aunque tu sonrisa sea triste, porque más triste que tu sonrisa triste, es la tristeza de no saber sonreir!!

Smile!

Always smile. Though your smile be sad, because sadder than a sad smile is the sadness of not knowing smile!

Constructed during World War II.

Due to wartime shortages of building materials, the shed is clad with flattened kerosene tins.

Spirit of the Age...for a given point in time or Generation.....

e.g. World War II or The American Civil War, are strong examples.

King Belshazzar gave a great banquet. Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall in the royal palace. The King's face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking. Then all the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant. Daniel was brought before the king, and the king said to him, “I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom.”

And Daniel interpreted: “This is the inscription that was written: mene, mene, tekel, upharsin. These words mean: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.” Then at Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom. That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain, and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.

[the Book of Daniel]

This story demonstrates why cottages are important. And the moral of this story is that our history, beliefs, mythology are still fascinating to children, if for nothing other than that the children can see how humankind suffers from repetition compulsion... and perhaps do something about it because we keep being "found wanting".

Two very different forces of nature at work here, I found the result a little intriguing. Intriguing enough in fact that I made a Holgarama of the whole scene - my largest ever, encompassing two rolls of film... but I still have yet to assemble it. Some day.

About sums it up I guess, ...doesn't it?

“I keep thinking you already know. I keep thinking I’ve sent you letters that were only ever written in my mind.”

(Genesis : The light dies down on Broadway)

She slept on puddled water that smelled like rain

Wounded, bleeding and starving, yet she felt no pain.

Time seemed endless; the only indication of day was the dim window's light;

There was no sound, no bell, no watch, no clock to strike at midnight.

With passing time, her soul hardened as her mind purified

Alone, with thoughts of her own demise, made her feel afraid, petrified.

Crumbling against the corner of the wall waiting to be fed

She could almost hear a clock ticking in her head

But even with all her sadness, there were no tears to be shed.

To stay sane she knew she would have to mentally fight

Because without confronting the darkness she knew one could never see the light.

I enjoy photography, getting out, seeing new sights, trying to make nice pictures out of them. Going places with my camera keeps me alert to what I see around me. I feel naked, unprepared, if I go out without a chunk of camera in my hand.

But this morning having put my Nikon on its tripod I wanted to capture the scene with my involvement in it. So I pulled out my little Samsung Galaxy S4-Mini phone and vaguely pointed it so it would chose to focus on the back of the Nikon, and pressed my finger on the bit of screen that tells it to take a picture, with a feeble noise a bit like an injured cricket. Back home I find it is already uploaded to flickr, so took a closer look at the image. This is it.

The vague waving of my phone in the approximate direction of the camera resulted in a pin sharp image of the Nikon, and it didn't seem to be bothered by things like minimum focus distance. The lighting was spot on, and the colour completely faithful. How do these little phones do it? Will I have to accept that one day I won't need a 'camera'? Will I have to accept that the challenge of trying to make a decent picture will disappear?

Surely I can't be an amateur photographer if I don't have a camera?

The idiomatic expression "the writing is on the wall" comes from the Bible and means that doom is impending which is so obvious that only a fool would not see it coming

In the Bible,Belshazzar, king of Babylon, was warned that his kingdom was about to collapse but he was too busy having a good time to notice the warning.

I can't sleep series.

Prompts: some nights I can't sleep because the words in my head just need to come out.
