This is on the building where Honoré Daumier lived. 9, Quai d'Anjou, Ile Saint Louis.

I wonder if there will be something about me on the building I am living at now? If so, it will probably be written with crayons, on cardboard and hung with scotch tape.

Note the lack of overshoots and the disharmonious widths. ‘G’ is relatively small, ‘z’ is non-descending. The spur on ‘ſ’ was moved down the stem, in order to avoid a collison with the preceding ‘a’.

In memory of a fellow light painter Gareth Brooks, gone too soon.

Check out his light art.

Production notes in case anyone is interested...

I filled a white bowl with water, and then clamped the pen with the nib just over the water, as close as I could get it without touching. The camera was in burst mode on a tripod, and the main light source was a cheap table lamp pointing at the water. I then poured additional water from a jug into the bowl - as the water level reached the nib the ink started to run out, and I started taking shots. I jiggled the bowl to get some movement in the water. These swirls were the result.

I had initially tried gently lowering the pen down into the water but it was impossible to keep sharp focus. Luckily it occurred to me to bring the water up to the static pen. Also, the draining board in the kitchen is now much cleaner than it was, after removal of a small amount of spilt ink.

In hideous darkness

I am the devil.

Transparent as ebony.

I say ignorance

is as dark as hell.

I am no more mad than you.

What thinkest thou

of his opinion?

and the meaningless of speaking

(for myself only, you dont need to know)

It Should Be Said (and preferably with bokeh)

We let each other know in little ways all the time around here, but sometimes it deserves to be said loud and clear and in big bold letters. Thank You! Really!

I was blown away by the lovely comments on yesterday's image (in no small part because they included words that simply wouldn't pop to mind if I were describing myself). And it led me back to the gratitude I feel for this special space and the people who share in it. This year has been filled with unexpected surprises and taken me in directions that I couldn't have anticipated (...ahem...). Above all it continues to teach me a new way to see, at a time when I need it most; seeing my day, seeing my surroundings, seeing possibilities through the inspiration of others, and seeing myself. That sort of experience doesn't happen in isolation, and it certainly isn't as joyful without making some wonderful, supportive and talented friends along the way. So Thank You to each of my amazing Flickr friends! The difference you make goes so far beyond the words!

After I finish running off my mouth about how dumb the ß looks, Frank shows me how it's written.

This is one of two new cushions for a new, Sydney-based online store called Gallop Lifestyle

I'm really inspired at the moment by old travel documents and passport stamps, old leather suitcases, postcards, exotic scenes of 1930's desert travel and adventure, especially scenes from a film my grandfather made in 1938 when he was part of the Australian Cricket team on their way to play England via Europe and the Middle East...so imagine black and white silent film footage of my prankster-Grandfather, Clavel 'Jack' Badcock, riding camels around the pyramids in Egypt and sailing through the Suez Canal on the ocean liner they had to travel on...my Grandfather was mistaken in Greece for a local because he was a short, stocky, dark-haired chap:
