During my recent trip to Newcastle i paid my first visit to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art. The Baltic opened in July 2002 in a converted flour mill built by Joseph Rank of Rank Hovis to a late-1930s design by Hull-based architects Gelder and Kitchen. We had no idea what was showing at the Gallery but there were a couple of interesting shows
The most impressive was a room size instillation by Hew Locke who was born in Edinburgh in 1959. Though he lived in Georgetown, Guyana, from 1966 to 1980. His instillation called A Procession contained dozens of full sized models all taking part in some kind of march or procession . The work was commissioned by the Tate and originally presented in Tate Britain.
Locke writes “ A procession is part and parcel of the cycle of life; people gather and move together to celebrate, worship, protest, mourn, escape or even to better themselves.” The installation takes inspiration from real events and histories but overall, the figures invite us to walk alongside them, into an enlarged vision of an imagined future.

Though I didn't get to take a photograph of Lisa Ko and Thrity Umrigar, I wanted to talk about how much I enjoyed seeing them at Printer's Row Lit Fest. I can appreciate the sentiment that the sign expresses here. People of color who are artists, authors, musicians and create their own unique space in the universe don't need the approval or acceptance like white people like me or others. However, as someone who is a white woman, I greatly appreciate reading diverse perspectives and a sense of life long learning and I think, in order to acknowledge the full human story, we need to realize that we can't limit that story in any way. It should come as no surprise that women have a difficult time getting published and, if you are an immigrant or a minority, without connections and money especially, it is next to impossible. So, we must support these incredible voices. It's in our best interest as humans.
For the record, I wasn't able to take photographs of either Lisa Ko or Thirty Umrigar because they were speaking in small classrooms and I'm not the type of person to break out a huge camera and disrupt the author or the readers there to admire them.
But, I did want to write about them and support their work. I read about 130 books each year and I really want to support authors who are both female and who are Jewish, Asian, African American, Palestinian, Latina, Native American, Middle Eastern-I love reading all kinds of perspectives. Here's a list I created of contemporary American female authors I like (some were not born in America but have citizenship now and/or have been living here for many years). (I also love reading different books from women who are not American citizens) Please feel free to add your own suggestions! I am always looking for more authors to discover!
I also wanted to share how much I loved something that Thrity Umrigar said about how sharing the human story and that need is something all humans have in common and unites us all.

Main story

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Okay okay to start this all off, this text was intended for a new Wonder Woman Comic Cover! I did in-fact create the cover, and you can see it on Patreon right now! My fellow Patron's and I (they really didn't help that much), but they/I have concluded that this was ultimately the better image and decided to share this Wide-Screen 16:9ish image instead :)
Now I didn't wanna write anything else, so we're gonna talk about Sensation Comics #1 no matter what! So here we go! Back at it again with crazy old comics from the 40's, gettin' us pumped up for a movie that none of us have seen yet!
*whew*
Anyway!
Dude... Wonder Woman's real-life origins are so fascinating! She was created by William Moulton Marston back in 1941. The guy was a Psychologist from Harvard, and is widely considered the father of the Polygraph!
But back in the 40's, people thought this guy was a nut! He had many scientific theory's on human emotions, as well as theory's on how woman were naturally more honest than men. He was also a strong feminist, and was in a polyamorous relationship with two ladies at the same time (a real scandal back in the day)!
All the while, DC's publishing track record was very male-centric (SuperMAN, BatMAN, HawkMAN etc). And by that I mean there were no female superheros. Like... literally none.
Unfortunately (and this may as well just been a sign of the times) but girls were generally depicted as the end-goal, rather than actual characters. They were damsels or mothers or girlfriends and frankly that sucked!
Now Mr Marston recognized this and came along with an idea for a new hero that solved problems without violence by the influence of a positive action hero. Pitching ideas off with his wife Elizabeth, who urged him to make this character a woman! It was only natural that he worked thoroughly with Elizabeth to create what inevitably became The Wonder Woman character!
By her first full-story appearance in Sensation Comics No.1 she was a Crime-Fighting, US Government Agent, and an Amazonian Princess that possessed super human powers, and used them for the greater good and all that jazz. Besides all that, she was also in possession of The Lasso of Truth! Undeniably inspired by Marston's work in the scientific field.
With the publication of such a character, DC saw a rather large spike in new readers and subsequently continued the character's run due to decent sales.
Wonder Woman pushed the boundaries of social norms in a lot of ways. Being regarded as The First Female Superhero, paving the way for gender equality just like Womens-Rights movements of the time.
There's some really fascinating history that surrounds this character, and it still surprises me to this day at how early she arrived in comic book linage. She's a Golden Age Hero! It blows my mind that Wonder Woman became such a world-wide success; so successful in fact, to still be relevant and popular today! Like we had characters like Dr Mid-Nite and The Specter published before her, but you don't see their hollywood movies coming out any time soon! :P
This just makes me all the more excited for what's to come in her live-action film debut in a few weeks!

Normally I would write that this is a much needed stocking adjustment because such hold-up stockings tend to slide down your legs a little over time. Although that is true it is also often an excuse; the reality is that hold-ups stay in place pretty well and that stocking adjustments are mostly needed for quite different reasons.
First of all, silky stockings with lacy stocking tops are too pretty to keep hidden all the time. They simply deserve to be shown every now and then.
Secondly, fondling with my stocking tops is the most feminine activity I can think of. It feels so incredibly girly, tender, sensual and exciting to lift my skirt a little, take the stocking tops between my fingers and give them that magical little pull. That's just heaven for me.
Last but not least, stocking adjustments are incredibly sensual and seductive, yet in style with plenty of ladylike class. That fits very well to me: I love to play and tease, but only in style. Stocking adjustments are perfect for that and they're are also much appreciated by people who happen to witness them. That's a win for everybody.

until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Despite having just returned from the USA on Friday the body clock (and brain) clearly were out of sync and, no doubt the alternative of watching the endless Eurovision Song Contest on tv resulted in a sudden decision to drive up to Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Scottish border just a couple miles beyond.
The purpose was to see newly-overhauled Class A3 pacific No. 60103 Flying Scotsman working a charter from York to Edinburgh, this being a return to Scotland for the first time in many years and certainly the first time a BR green-liveried A3 has been seen there since 1964.
In the event the charter was running a little late and it was 19.30 before the A3 steamed across the Royal Border bridge over the River Tweed....but disaster...there was a slight breeze from the north-east and the smoke was blowing down all the way across the viaduct. Fortunately it must be a little more sheltered towards the north end and the smoke cleared over the northern three arches!
After a water stop at Berwick-upon-Tweed the train departed north to the Scottish capital soon after 20.00 but much of the line along the North Sea coast was in shadow and the slight breeze resulted in nothing worthwhile.
It remains to be seen if Berwick-upon-Tweed becomes the new 'Checkpoint Charlie' where all passengers and trains are searched (or turned back) should England decide to leave the EU next month as Scotland have decided to remain in the EU!

It symbolises the mirror of death with an inscription: "omnia mutantur nos et mutamur in illis“, translated: "all things change, and we change with them". I always wanted to have the motive tattooed, but until today I didn't get the chance. Once the mask project came up, I immediately saw the picture, my face masking the inevitable truth - underneath the mask of youth and health, the death awaits us sooner or later.
The choice of the Mexican Death mask lays partially in my fascination for the different ways people cope with death, but most importantly that death has also a beautiful side, even if not for the bereaved."
