There are many opportunities in Barcelona to see and admire the work of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí . My particular favourite is the magical Parc Guell in the north of the city. This is a detail from one of the playful buildings in Parc Guell
October 1900 saw the start of work on dividing the site into levels, with building work proceeding at a good pace. On 4 January 1903, a description published in the Anuari de l’Associació d’Arquitectes (Association of Architects Year Book) noted that the two entrance pavilions had been constructed, as well as the main flight of steps, the shelter for horse-drawn carriages, the outer enclosure, the viaducts and part of the great esplanade, together with the water evacuation system. By 1907 events were already being held in the great square, from which we know that the hypostyle room was entirely covered by then, while the tiled bench running around it was completed in 1914.

Compare the original with the pictures on the postcard. In Valldemossa, the two look very much alike. No wonder, then, that so many tourists visit this pretty town in the mountains of Mallorca every day. The best time to visit is in the evening. Above all, it is a good idea to look around and stroll through the less crowded streets.

ECVP v1 is an international video collaboration project where 37 artists, including myself, from 16 countries around the world have created 9 videos in a total running time of 82 minutes.
The film has been created by group of individual and successful artists, many of who have not met previously, responding to an invitation by Kika Nicolela, an
award-winning filmmaker from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Nicolela facilitated the project through the international social networking site for artists, curators and art critics on
Art review.com following discussions at Video Artists Forum.
The project was inspired by the classic Surrealists' drawing method of the same name, Cadavre Exquis, in which a paper is folded so that each contributor sees only a small portion of the preceding artist's work. The ECVP participants created minute-long video art segments in response to the final ten seconds of the previous filmmaker's work. Each participant was then asked to incorporate these seconds into their piece, creating transitions as they pleased, until everyone's vision was threaded together into a final "corpse". In this global experiment, artists have created and enriched the final production with their unique personal style and input, following each others prompt as a source of inspiration.
While working in collaboration, the ECVP group is in search for new modes of expression in the development of video art, building a new concept through utilizing the characteristics of participatory platforms and new communication technology. ECVP Volume 1 has been screened in festivals and galleries throughout the world,
including Brazil, Sweden, Germany, Greece, South Africa, Canada, Mexico, and the US.

This is a photographic account of my recent week-long vacation on the island of Favignana, spent at the end of July this year (2026). Specifying the year is a must, as I often post reports from past years.
Favignana is the largest of the Egadi islands, followed by Levanzo (the smallest) and Marettimo, as well as several smaller islets. On this trip, I returned with my wife, years after our honeymoon: we only stayed for one day, and I had with me a compact film camera purchased especially for the occasion on Via Etnea in Catania.
Seen from above, some have poetically glimpsed Favignana as the shape of a butterfly with open wings. The landscape is characterized by gentle hills—with the highest point at Monte Santa Caterina—and several flat areas. The coastline is very rugged, full of inlets, sea caves, hidden coves, and others that are easily accessible; I've visited practically all of the latter. Among the many, I particularly remember Cala Rossa, Cala Azzurra, Bue Marino, Cala Grande, Lido Burrone, and Cala San Nicola. The local road system is dominated by bicycles (traditional and electric), motorcycles, and mopeds, while cars are rare, partly due to an ordinance prohibiting tourist landings except under special conditions.
The history of Favignana is inextricably linked to the Florio family and its imposing tuna fishery, a combination that radically transformed the island between the late 19th and 20th centuries, making it the beating heart of the Mediterranean economy and fishing. The Florios became the symbol of the Sicilian Belle Époque and the southern industrial bourgeoisie when, in 1874, Ignazio Florio Senior purchased the islands of Favignana and Formica. The family didn't limit itself to traditional fishing, but also industrialized the entire process: inaugurated in 1891, the enormous tuna canning plant became one of the largest and most advanced in Europe.
The Florios introduced a revolutionary idea for the time: cooking the tuna and storing it in oil in tins, rather than preserving it in salt, thus allowing the product to be marketed on an industrial scale. The family's influence on the island was widespread. The company employed hundreds of locals and, within the complex, built warehouses, boathouses, workshops, and even a nursery for the workers' children.
The business subsequently gradually declined until it finally closed in the 1970s. After decades of abandonment, the former plant is now an extraordinary museum. Visiting it—which I did with great interest—means stepping back in time among enormous cooking cauldrons, old slaughter boats, and an archaeological site that also houses the bronze rams from the Battle of the Egadi Islands (241 BC). This decisive naval battle, fought and won by the Romans in the waters of the archipelago, marked the end of the First Punic War, destroying the naval power of Carthage, forcing it to surrender and cede control of Sicily to Rome.

Questo è un racconto fotografico della mia recentissima settimana di vacanze nell’isola di Favignana, trascorsa a fine luglio di quest'anno (2026). Specificare l'anno è per me d'obbligo, poiché mi capita spesso di postare reportage realizzati negli anni passati.
Favignana è la maggiore delle isole Egadi, seguita da Levanzo (la più piccola) e da Marettimo, oltre a diversi isolotti minori. In questo viaggio sono tornato con mia moglie, a distanza di anni dal nostro viaggio di nozze: allora ci fermammo solo per una giornata, e io avevo con me una compatta a pellicola acquistata appositamente per l'occasione in via Etnea, a Catania.
Vista dall'alto, qualcuno ha poeticamente intravisto in Favignana la forma di una farfalla con le ali aperte. Il paesaggio è caratterizzato da dolci rilievi collinari — con il punto più alto nel Monte Santa Caterina — e da diverse aree pianeggianti. La costa è molto frastagliata, ricca di insenature, grotte marine, calette nascoste e altre facilmente accessibili; queste ultime le ho visitate praticamente tutte. Tra le tante, ricordo in particolare Cala Rossa, Cala Azzurra, Bue Marino, Cala Grande, Lido Burrone e Cala San Nicola. La viabilità locale è dominata dalla presenza di biciclette (tradizionali ed elettriche), moto e motorini, mentre le automobili circolano in numero ridotto, anche a causa di un'ordinanza che ne vieta lo sbarco turistico se non in particolari condizioni.
La storia di Favignana è indissolubilmente legata alla famiglia Florio e alla sua imponente tonnara, un binomio che ha trasformato radicalmente l'isola tra la fine dell'Ottocento e il Novecento, facendone il cuore pulsante dell'economia e della pesca nel Mediterraneo. I Florio divennero il simbolo della Belle Époque siciliana e della borghesia industriale del Sud quando, nel 1874, Ignazio Florio Senior acquistò le isole di Favignana e Formica. La famiglia non si limitò a gestire la pesca tradizionale, ma volle industrializzare l'intero processo: inaugurato nel 1891, l'enorme stabilimento per la conservazione del tonno divenne una delle tonnare più grandi e avanzate d'Europa.
I Florio introdussero un'intuizione rivoluzionaria per l'epoca: cuocere il tonno e metterlo sott’olio in scatole di latta, anziché conservarlo sotto sale, permettendo così di commercializzare il prodotto su scala industriale. L'influenza della famiglia sull'isola fu totale. L'azienda diede lavoro a centinaia di persone del posto e, all'interno del complesso creò magazzini, rimesse per le barche, officine e persino un asilo nido per i figli degli operai.
Successivamente l'attività andò progressivamente riducendosi fino alla definitiva chiusura negli anni '70. Dopo decenni di abbandono, oggi l'ex stabilimento è uno straordinario museo. Visitarlo — cosa che ho fatto con grandissimo interesse — significa fare un salto indietro nel tempo tra enormi calderoni di cottura, le vecchie barche della mattanza ed un'area archeologica che custodisce anche i rostri di bronzo della Battaglia delle Egadi (241 a.C.). Proprio questo scontro navale decisivo, combattuto e vinto dai Romani nelle acque dell'arcipelago, segnò la fine della Prima Guerra Punica, distruggendo la potenza navale di Cartagine, costringendola alla resa ed a cedere il controllo della Sicilia a Roma.

WRITE A LOVE LETTER TO THE WORLD: The news today is overwhelming. We see widespread pain and suffering and wonder what difference we can make, but I like to believe that if we send positive wishes and good energy out to anyone who needs them, they will reach someone and mean something to them. We underestimate what helping one person could do. Writing a love letter to the world reminds you to operate this way in all your interactions of the day. What connects us all to one another is our connection to love. I know that sometimes divided as we are by our different opinions, values and beliefs. But underneath it all, every single one of us has one powerful thing in common - we all want to experience love.

I must admit that as a 'creative',
1, being a night-person, my 'best' ideas mostly come after midnight!

3, ... as soon as I have 'problems', however small, with client, family, health... the first thing to GO is: my creativity! So please, tee hee, do not upset me, he?

Why is this beautiful nebula so complicated ? When a star is dying, it blast away its outer layers, usually into a simple overall shape. Sometimes this shape is a sphere, sometimes a double lobe, and sometimes a ring or a helix. In this image, however, no such simple structure has emerged. To help find out why, Hubble Space Telescope recently observed NGC 5189 in Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulfur emission lines. Previous findings indicated the existence of multiple periods of material outflow, including a recent one that created a bright but distorted bar-like feature running horizontally across image center. Results appear consistent with a hypothesis that the dying star is part of a binary star system with a precessing symmetry axis. Given this new data, though, research is sure to continue.

Nadat de trein 's ochtends uit Amsterdam is vertrokken en het gehele land doorgereden is, is de trein, ruim tien uur later, bijna weer op het beginpunt aangekomen. Onder nummer 39385 staat RXP 9901 gereed op Haarlem voor het laatste stukje van de reis.
Am Montag der 10. Dezember fuhr, im Auftrag von Amnesty International, den Write for Rights Zug durch die Niederlanden. Nachdem der Zug am Morgen aus Amsterdam abgefahren war, und eine Runde durch fast das ganze Land gemacht wurde, ist der Zug mehr als 10 Stunden später fast wieder zurück in Amsterdam. Im Bild steht Railexperts 9901 mit Zug 39385 abfahrbereit am Bahnhof Haarlem für das letzte Teil der Reise.
On Monday the 10th of December the Write for Right train was making a journey through the Netherlands for Amnesty International. After the train departed from Amsterdam in the morning, making a journey through the Netherlands, more than 10 hours later the train has almost reached it starting point again. Railexperts 9901 is waiting at Haarlem as train 39385 for the last part of the journey.

This image from the Hubble Space Telescope displays spiral galaxy NGC 105, which lies 215 million light-years away in the constellation Pisces. NGC 105 appears to be plunging edge-on into a collision with a neighbouring galaxy, but this is just the result of the chance alignment of the two objects in the night sky. NGC 105’s elongated neighbor is actually far more distant and remains relatively unknown to astronomers.
