Producing gravel with a sledge hammer is hard work, but this young lady is doing just that, and she's doing it with a smile. Note that she's wearing no gloves and no eye protection of any kind. Road repair in Sri Lanka may have modernised since this picture was taken, but in 1994 - only 16 years ago - this was a common scene by the roadside.

From time to time, I was so called fire watch. It is a very boring job, I just stayed and watched holding fire extinguisher for 12 hours straight. But I made $180 day doing that. Not bad.
