Tonight I’m taking you to the heart of Cassiopeia: IC 1805, the Heart Nebula. ❤️✨
A vast expanse of glowing hydrogen, thousands of light-years away, where new stars are born… and where the sky seems to remind us that even the universe can take on a “human” shape.
It’s a large H II region (ionized hydrogen) where star formation is actively taking place: inside it stands out the open cluster Melotte 15, which “carves” and shapes the gas through stellar winds and radiation.

• Constellation: Cassiopeia
• Type: Emission nebula / H II region
• Distance: ~7,500 light-years (order of magnitude)
• Apparent size: about 60′ (≈ 1°), so very extended
• Physical size: ~150 light-years (order of magnitude)
• Nickname: “Heart” because of its characteristic Hα shape
