A river valley and small village outside of Kabul. I took this as I was coming back to Kabul, Afghanistan in May 2007 on the UNHAS (United Nations) flight from Dubai, after a much needed break in Germany with my family. There are so many river valleys in Afghanistan where you can see spots of green amid the parched, mountainous land - and that means there is a tiny community/village there, oh-so-isolated. They are beautiful, but because of the isolation, the living circumstances, especially for women, are tragic.

The cafe workers are all DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) members, and have to be accepted after an application process. Workers in the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility (PHSF) place a rolled-up document inside Deep Space 1. The paper was signed by the workers in the PHSF. Deep Space 1 is scheduled to fly on the Boeing Delta 7326 rocket to be launched in October. The first flight in NASA's New Millennium Program, Deep Space 1 is designed to validate 12 new technologies for scientific space missions of the next century. Onboard experiments include an ion propulsion engine and software that tracks celestial bodies so the spacecraft can make its own navigation decisions without the intervention of ground controllers. Deep Space 1 will complete most of its mission objectives within the first two months, but will also do a flyby of a near-Earth asteroid, 1992 KD, in July 1999. It makes them out to be heroes or something. But they are working for a public company, their product is a service, and therefore their performance (Actually the construction guys do do a heck of a job but I'm talking about the train operations/customer service people) should be based on the quality of that service, but there's no competition, so there's no way to guage that service, other than the fact that I hate have the airconditioning turned off at 10 or 11 PM when it's still hot, being crammed into train at inhuman capacity levels, being jerked and jostled around by sadistic drivers on said packed trains, walking onto trains that smell like poop or some other unpleasant smell, etc. etc.
But what other train line are you going to take from your home? There' no competition
Also, more on the train industry here - dept. store chain conglomerate subsidizes the existence of the train line (train lines rarely make money), same deal for JR, only worse because it was the government (privatized in reality?), compare JR and private lines, ta;l about subways and train lines (Tokyo metro, Oedo lines, links to private train lines) tickt machines, suica and passnet (new combo one coming out this year?), train nerds (photography, train fetishism) etc. etc.
