On 26 April 2019 the ILO in collaboration with the Ministry of Administrative Development Labour and Social Affairs and the Netherlands Embassy organised a 5km fun run for workers in Doha's Aspire Park. Over, 1,000 runners took part in the event, held in recognition of the contribution workers make to the development of modern-day Qatar and to promote solidarity with the workers.
15 Year old Mabyu travelled from her home in Mon State to the Thai border town of Mae Sot, the three day journey cost 30,00 Kyat’s (£15) for bribes to clear check points along the route, she now works a ten or twelve hour day in a garment factory for 50 Bhat (80 pence) a day excluding deductions for water and accomodation (she sleeps under her machine), also her monthly repayments for a work permit which the factory owner paid for and keeps. While migrant workers must pay 3,800 baht for registration, this does not protect them from police extortion because the cards are confiscated by their employers. March 2003.

This small building used to be the home of kookaburras. Those birds were sent to another zoo, and the cockatoos inherited the space. Some home improvements are being provided before Bobby and Freddie, our resident cockatoos, move to their summer house.
First grade has been using their computer class to make stop-motion animation films about community workers. First, each table group was assigned a different community worker: fire fighters, police officers, construction workers, train workers, or airline workers. The students used the computer to draw a backdrop in front of which their animation would be filmed. After story-boarding three different ways the community workers helps in the community, the students collaborated to create stop-motion films.
