On the 10th of January 1959, His Eminence Valerian Cardinal Gracias blessed and laid the foundation stone of the new fan shaped Church building during the Vicarship of Fr. H. Jimenez S.J., who commenced the construction.

The Holy Family Parish's new church building was completed in 1962 and was blessed by His Eminence Valerian Cardinal Gracias on the 5th of March 1962. Fr. Salvador Marquis S.J., was the Vicar.

After two years of hard labour and frustration (the entire land was a rocky hill), the cemetery was blessed on the 25th of June 1964, by Fr. J. Calvo S.J., the Vicar.

Nuria has visited us a handful of times and is our number one PA assistant on Facebook. We have had more followers as a result of Nuria´s enthusiasm for El gran sueño than anyone else.

During the summer, Nuria helped us with some paint stripping, gardening and also provided lunch for us, a great day and one to be remembered at El gran sueño.

Thank you Nuria!

On the eve of the Assumption in 1588 the whole village of Marol became Catholic. After a very short time, thirteen other villages under the jurisdiction of Marol followed her example". (Ref. Thesaurum Rerum Indicarum I, Pg. 560.). Among those villages were Chaquelem (Chakala) and Gondoulym (Gundowli).

The person responsible for the conversions was Bro. Manuel Gomes S.J., who was ordained a priest in 1583. He was well-versed in the Marathi dialect spoken in this area and he also knew the rites and ceremonies of the local people. He was the founder of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Condita (Kondivita), the ruins of which still exists in the SEEPZ Complex.

Team gardeners, from the left. Mike, Régine, Manu, Géraldine and Javier, serving up chickpea and spinach stew. Lunch times at El gran sueño were often accompanied by some fine Asturian cider provided by one of our neighbours.

Here, Morgan and Dave are enjoying some of the modern architecture of Asturias. This magnificent building was designed by the famous Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava. Edificio Buenavista is home to some government offices as well as a pretty cool hotel.

Morgan did spend time helping us at the house too, mainly gardening &b painting furniture. However, not one single shot of him in working action was taken! Oops!

I came back to Vancouver in 2006, thinking I was going to "settle" here. My parents were overjoyed that I'd finally made a decision and hoped I would stick with it. Heck, I even bought a (real!) bed and a couch to prove my commitment.

However, less than a month later, I was pretty unsatisfied, even with the novelty of the new furniture. I loved the city, but just wasn't ready to stay put. So, despite my weeping parents and pressure from property-buying and baby-popping peers, I had to be fair to myself and do what my heart desired.

I decided not two weeks ago to get my working holiday visa for France. A scheduled appointment and one question later, it was one of the easiest visas to obtain as a Canadian. Complete a bit of paperwork, collect a few documents, and the visa's granted the very same day of your appointment. And it doesn't cost a cent!

The adventure starts soon, my friends. First it's Texas, then it's France. The contrast makes me howl. Ex.ci.ting.

Thanks to Jasmine Arnold for her photos from the Madagascar Marine Conservation and Diving project!
