work of Jelena Radonjic and me has been selected for exibition and we are still waiting the final results. The final stage and announcement of the winners will be at 28th May in SKC.
More in the Jezblog 'my own shoes' series ............. this time Jez is modeling heavy duty metal toe work boots on a visit to a mine ......... this stuff will be all the rage in the Fall shows ........
I am wearing a ton of mega safety gear the mine operator insists on........ these guys were mega serious on safety........ the training in using the respirator was very thorough......... alarming and reassuring all at once........
In the picture...... I am in the 'man trip'....... a mixture between a cage and a tiny train carriage that takes you the bumpy 5 miles to the coal face.....
I must sleep mines are so tiring........... I always come away from an underground visit to a mine with renewed respect and liking for miners.......... not sure I could do this everyday....... but more tomorrow.......

PS...... Sorry to anyone attempting to speak to me on the phone...... the cell signal is pretty poor in West Virginia anyway...... and by the time you are down the mines....... hehehe........ even Apple technology can't deal with that yet :-))
Stephanie has been featured here before (www.flickr.com/photos/samuelrussell/7125703573/in/photost...). She's another co-worker that is very photogenic and doesn't mind having her photo taken. She's also very fashionable and I really liked her pink top and polka-dot dress (can't see it too well here). I'm really happy with how most of these headshots came out so I'm glad people give me permission to share them.

I swear i feel i don't have time to breathe.. Work Work Work.. all the time.. I miss all of u.. i feel i havn't realy looked through people's work like i use to.. excuse my quick comments.. i barely have time to come online for a few minutes. The rest of the time i feel i'm knee deep in papers and paint..

about this picture.. i quickly snapped a picture of the drying rack, which is filled with the work i'm doing at the moment. Its time consuming, but i hope the effort is worth it in the end.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad trainmen John Strieter ponders the work he faces in boarding passengers for a steam train that will arrive at the Rockside Road station in Independence once he CVSR National Park Scenic train departs. The boy behind the trainman appears to have a look of admiration on his face as he looks at the man and his passenger uniform.
If anybody was wondering what I was doing at work today. I was going through three of these excel spreadsheets, each this size with around 7000 cells with increasingly meaningless numbers in. Numbers that I have entered and now have to compare, compile and tally. It's taken me 3 days to get this much done, and there is little hope in sight of me actually finishing these results this week.
Working in an office has many constraints, especially as it is usually because it is organized around a hierarchy. when you spend a lot of time in a hierarchy it can be difficult to imagine a different kind of existence.
It is easy to see people as one thing, and one thing only, and that is their pigeonhole in the hierarchy. The accountant is only the accountant. Just as importantly many people come to see themselves as their pigeonhole description.
People, though, are so much more. Our existences at work and elsewhere are transitional, capable of change. If only we can tell what parts of us are core, and what parts just added on to do a job.
Today, on Valentine's Day, at long last, Yi-wen and I bought our "mutual Christmas gift": a Pentax k100d. It's a nice entry-level dslr. Of course, now she claims that this is not "our gift" but my Christmas, Valentine's Day, and birthday gift.
Whatever.
Bought it this afternoon, took it in to work with me, and took this photo of a randomly chosen page from the dictionary on my desk.
Love the definition.
