INDIEN , "Fatehpur Sikri"is a city in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India Previously city name was Vijaypur Sikari of Sikarwar Rajput clan later city was founded in 1569 by the Emperor, Akbar, and served as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1571 to 1585. After his military victories over Chittor and Ranthambore, Akbar decided to shift his capital from Agra to a new location 23 miles (37 km) W.S.W on the Sikri ridge, to honour the Sufi saint Salim Chishti. Here he commenced the construction of a planned walled city which took the next fifteen years in planning and construction of a series of royal palaces, harem, courts, a mosque, private quarters and other utility buildings. He named the city, Fatehabad, with Fateh, a word of Arabic origin in Persian, meaning "victorious." it was later called Fatehpur Sikri. It is at Fatehpur Sikri that the legends of Akbar and his famed courtiers, the nine jewels or Navaratnas, were born. Fatehpur Sikri is one of the best preserved collections of Indian Mughal architecture in India.

The word sail, a monument to poetry, is the name of a steel sculpture by Heinrich Popp.
The sculpture stands on an open field northwest of Sotzweiler, the birthplace of the sculptor and today a district of the Saarland municipality of Tholey in the district of St. Wendel. On an elevation of about 338 metres above NHN, the sculpture represents a landmark visible from afar.
The word sail consists of two sail-shaped triangles, one of which stands on the top and which are twisted against each other. The two halves of the sail, made of stainless steel, are welded together at their highest point. At the same time, the empty space between the two steel plates also has a sail-like shape, depending on the point of view.
The monument, a gift from Heinrich Popp to his home community, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution. The two steel plates were cast in the Dillinger Hütte and rolled to a thickness of 3 cm. The sculpture has a height of 13 meters and a total weight of approx. 30 tons.
The term word sail is also the name of a writing and poetry competition initiated by the artist at participating schools in Saarland.

Das Wortsegel, ein Denkmal für Poesie, ist der Name einer Stahlplastik von Heinrich Popp.
Die Skulptur steht auf offenem Feld nordwestlich von Sotzweiler, dem Geburtsort des Bildhauers und heute ein Ortsteil der saarländischen Gemeinde Tholey im Landkreis St. Wendel. Auf einer Anhöhe von etwa 338 Metern über NHN stellt die Plastik eine weithin sichtbare Landmarke dar.
Das Wortsegel besteht aus zwei jeweils segelförmigen Dreiecken, von denen eins auf der Spitze steht und die gegeneinander verdreht/verspiegelt aufgestellt sind. An ihrer obersten Stelle sind die beiden aus rostendem Stahl erschaffenen Segelhälften miteinander verschweißt. Gleichzeitig besitzt auch der sich zwischen den beiden Stahlplatten befindende leere Raum abhängig vom Betrachtungsstandpunkt ebenfalls eine segelähnliche Form.
Das Denkmal, ein Geschenk von Heinrich Popp an seine Heimatgemeinde, wurde nach mehrjähriger Planungs- und Ausführungsphase 2005 errichtet. Die beiden Stahlplatten wurden in der Dillinger Hütte gegossen und bis auf eine Stärke von 3 cm gewalzt. Die Skulptur hat eine Höhe von 13 Metern und besitzt ein Gesamtgewicht von ca. 30 Tonnen
Der Begriff Wortsegel ist gleichzeitig der Name eines von dem Künstler ins Leben gerufenen Schreib- und Lyrikwettbewerbs an teilnehmenden Schulen im Saarland.

Een galloway is een hoornloos, meestal zwart behaard runderras dat oorspronkelijk uit Schotland komt. Galloways worden in natuurgebieden ingezet als grote grazers.
Ze hebben weinig zorg nodig en zijn niet agressief.
Ze zijn goed aangepast aan het leven buiten, koude winters zijn geen probleem voor ze. De dieren zijn hoofdzakelijk op zoek naar vers gras maar ook ruig plantenmateriaal zoals brandnetels en distels worden graag verteert. Ze hebben weinig zorg nodig en zijn niet agressief.

Een plaatje van onderhand al vier en een half jaar geleden: op 2 april 2017 was ik toevallig op station Amsterdam, dus konden er een paar plaatjes worden gemaakt.
Het DDM-1 materieel reed toen nog in die regio, en 's middags om half vier was het loc 1778 die met haar stam 7202 het Amsterdamse binnen kwam lopen. Nadeel van veel in Noord-Holland rijden is dat de stammen en locs al snel besmeurd worden met graffiti...

Door werkzaamheden bij de spooraansluiting in het Belgische Hermalle-sous-Huy rijdt de dolimetrein momenteel 1 of 2 keer per week.
Op 21 februari 2023 maakte de dolimetrein een slag naar Veendam. Een dag later keerde de trein leeg terug. Door werkzaamheden tussen Eindhoven en Weert, moest de trein omgeleid worden via Roosendaal. Hierdoor reed de trein niet gebruikelijk met een TCs 1700, maar met een duo 77.
De reeks 77 was in het verleden een dagelijkse verschijning op de Brabantroute, maar door de komst van de 186 is het een zeldzame verschijning geworden.

Regiobahn heeft onlangs de tweedelige Talenten vervangen door Integrals die van de Bayerische Oberlandbahn zijn overgenomen. Hiermee kon de spoorvervoerder de capaciteit uitbreiden wat nodig was door de verlenging van de treindienst Kaarst - Mettmann tot Wuppertal. De oude treinstellen zijn daarna aan Transferoviar Călători uit Roemenië verkocht. Ze worden voor hun nieuwe taken geschikt gemaakt door 16 Februarie in Cluj-Napoca. Enkele treinstellen stonden op 31 oktober 2021 op het buitenterrein, vooraan 1004.

Afgelopen zaterdag werd er met een groepje vrienden naar Sevenum gegaan. Halverwege de dag ontstond er een chaotische situatie toen er halsoverkop een nieuwe stek moest worden gevonden. Er was namelijk een Arriva Wink transport onderweg en onze huidige stek was onbruikbaar geworden door het doorkomen van de zon. Als eerste werd er naar het station gefietst om te kijken of daar wat kon worden gevonden. Er was inderdaad een stek gevonden, maar de zon was even verdwenen en dus konden we niet zien of er schaduwen van bomen op het spoor zaten. Inderdaad was dit het geval en dus moest er later naar de Ulfterhoek worden gegaan. Voordat we het station verlieten konden er echter nog wat treinen op de foto worden gezet.
Op de foto passeert de SBB Cargo 193 533 met de P&O Novara-Shuttle. De trein komende vanuit Venlo is onderweg richting Brabant en verder naar eindbestemming de Rotterdamse Europoort!

Sylvester many years ago, in reference to the Wenatchee River's rapids within Tumwater Canyon."

Ook was in Hennigsdorf de nieuwe Bombardier TRAXX MS3 en DC3 te zien. De 188 002 was een van de zes testlocomotieven van Bombardier. TXL zou de eerste klant worden van het nieuwe platform, maar vooralsnog is slechts een locomotief van de 40 gebouwd. In Oost-Europa is het nieuwe loctype wel te zien ČD Cargo ontvangt van Bombardier tien locs, en RegioJet ontvangt er vijftien. Er was sprake dat het nieuwe loctype ook naar Nederland zou komen, maar dat is uitgesteld.

Der Limburger Unternehmer Reinhard Ernst hatte zwei von ihm entwickelte Firmen, die Spezialantriebe für Robotik und Mobilitätslösungen produzieren, an japanische Teilhaber veräußert und gemeinsam mit seiner Frau eine Stiftung gegründet. Um die Jahrtausendwende machte er sich Gedanken, wie er seine seit den 1980er-Jahren parallel dazu aufgebaute stattliche Kunstsammlung der Öffentlichkeit präsentieren könnte, durch Schenkung an ein Museum zum Beispiel. Die Sammlung Reinhard Ernst ist Europas bedeutendste Privatkollektion abstrakter Kunst und umfasst mehr als 900 Arbeiten aus Europa, den USA und Japan aus der Zeit nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg bis heute.

Die Furcht aller Stifter, dass ihre Privatsammlung dann bis auf wenige herausgepickte Highlights im Depot verschwindet, bewog ihn, ein eigenes Museum zu bauen. Ernst hatte mit Fumihiko Maki im japanischen Natori die Begegnungsstätte »Haus der Hoffnung«, ein Sozialprojekt für Tsunami-Opfer, realisiert und beauftragte ihn mit dem Entwurf für ein Museum zunächst an seinem Sitz in Limburg. Doch die dortigen Stadtväter hatten abgewinkt. Sie werden sich heute grämen.
Ernsts neuer Wohnort Wiesbaden nahm das Angebot an und stellte das Filetgrundstück Wilhelmstraße 1 im Zentrum des Kurviertels in Erbpacht zur Verfügung. Über die gemeinnützige Reinhard & Sonja Ernst Stiftung, die im Immobiliensektor agiert und soziale und kulturelle Projekte betreibt, investierte Reinhard Ernst 70 Millionen Euro in den Neubau und garantiert den dauerhaften Betrieb des Museums.
Fumihiko Maki schlägt mit seiner Architektur die Brücke von der japanischen Moderne, der narrative, figurative Elemente fremd sind, die diszipliniert statt verspielt, empfindsam statt vorlaut ist, zum Rationalismus und Utilitarismus Amerikas, wo er lange gelehrt und gearbeitet hat. Sein Museum in Wiesbaden ist Ausdruck dieser sensitiven, teilweise artifiziellen Moderne, die aller postmodernen Formalismen bar von der Gestaltung des Lichts, von Transparenz, von delikater Detaillierung Mies’scher Perfektion und von der Wirkung sorgsam ausgewählter Materialien lebt. Wie auch eine Werkschau, die zurzeit in den Wechselausstellungsräumen des Museums zu sehen ist, zeigt, ist die extravagante Großform von signature buildings Makis Sache nicht. Die Kubatur des mre reiht sich in die Bauflucht des Boulevards ein und reflektiert die Bauhöhe der Nachbarn. Die breite Front ist optisch in zwei hochrechteckige »Häuser« geteilt.
Das mit samtig schimmerndem weißen Granit »Bethel White« aus New Hampshire in makelloser Sortierung verkleidete Haus. Präzise geschnitten, mit gestockter Oberfläche und kaum merklicher Fügung – die Silikonfugen wurden mit Steinmehl gepudert – wird die Anmutung dünner Steintapeten vermieden. Die Kanten zeigen keine Stoßfuge, denn die Eckschalen sind aus dem vollen Stein geschnitten.
»Dieses Gebäude gehört der Kunst und die Kunst gehört allen«, das Zitat von Sonja und Reinhard Ernst an der Wand im Foyer ist Programm. Die Kunstvermittlung steht im Vordergrund. Das Haus wendet sich im Erdgeschoss voll verglast der Wilhelmstraße zu und weckt die Neugier der Passanten. Vor allem das Café mit Freisitz, aber auch der Museumsshop und natürlich der dazwischenliegende Haupteingang, dieser etwas geschützt zurückgesetzt, laden als gebaute Willkommensgeste die Passanten niederschwellig ins Haus ein.
Im Foyer mit dem anschließenden gläsernen Atrium bietet sich ein Rundblick, der den Besuchern Übersicht und Orientierung bis in die Obergeschosse ermöglicht. Zur Rechten folgt auf Shop und Empfang das experimentelle Farblabor für Jugendliche und der Eingang zum Maki-Forum. Mit seinen gestuft hinterleuchteten Seitenwänden und exquisiten Hängeleuchten ist der Veranstaltungssaal eine Augenweide und bietet 250 Besuchern Platz.

Makis präzise geschnittene Architektur ist klar, transparent, licht und hell. Diese luzide Baukunst profitiert ganz entscheidend von der exquisiten Qualität der Materialien, der Detailausbildung und der außergewöhnlichen Perfektion der Bauausführung. Dafür steht der Bauherr Reinhard Ernst, dessen Lebensinhalt das präzise Konstruieren war und der die Bauarbeiten fast täglich mit Argusaugen kritisch überwacht und jede Entscheidung selbst getroffen hat.
Der Rundgang führt durch Räume unterschiedlicher Prägung und Größe. Dazwischen gibt es helle Zonen, erholsame Ausblicke in die Stadt und ins Grüne, und immer wieder rings um das Atrium reizvolle Durchblicke, Himmelslicht, Wolkenzug. Kunstgenuss und Architekturerlebnis wechseln sich ab.
In einer Ecke des Obergeschosses überrascht eine zweiteilige Monumentalskulptur von Tony Cragg, für die der Standort eigens geplant worden war. Ein Kran hatte das Objekt übers Dach gehievt. Gut gesichert und eingepackt, überstand es die restliche Bauzeit. Auch der Standort für eine in den Innenhof gekrante tonnenschwere Großplastik von Eduard Chillida musste für die Schwerlast eigens gegründet werden.
Die Farbtöne sind gedeckt, die Räume weiß, die Fußböden wunderbar dunkles Holz oder Terrazzoflächen. Farben bringt die Kunst ins Spiel, und das nicht zu knapp. In jedem Saal erlebt der Besucher ein neues Feuerwerk. Wer erwartet hat, ein ganzes Museum abstrakter Kunst müsse langweilig sein, wird sehr überrascht sein.
Der Stifter hat kein akademisches Interesse, in thematischen Ausstellungen einzelne Strömungen, Künstler und deren Werdegang mit ganzen Werkgruppen kunsthistorisch korrekt dokumentieren zu wollen. Er sammelt nur, was ihm gefällt, Arbeiten mit »Wow-Effekt«. Und so wird der Rundgang zum erfüllenden sinnlichen Erlebnis, führt von Höhepunkt zu Höhepunkt, ohne Durststrecken. Sicher gibt es bewusste thematische Zusammenstellungen korrespondierender Werke. »Farbe hoch drei« untersucht Farbräume mit Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Francis oder Morris Luis, »Gegen den Strich« vom kraftvollen Pinsel geprägte Bilder von Katharina Grosse, Inoue Yūichi oder Robert Motherwell. »From Zero to Action« ist ein Raum überschrieben, »Die Befreiung der Farbe« ein anderer. »The Beat Goes On« zeigt Werke von Esteban Vicente, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Thomas Scheibitz oder Tal R, die bis in die 2000er-Jahre reichen. Ein Tageslichtraum ist Frank Stella für drei monumentale Metallreliefs seiner Moby Dick-Serie (1989) vorbehalten.
Das Museum ist ein Musterbeispiel an Perfektion in jeder Hinsicht. Es hat die für einen Museumsbesuch angemessene Größe, hohe Aufenthaltsqualität und für den Betrieb großzügig bemessene Neben- und Funktionsräume. Wenngleich Ernst das Kostenmanagement fest im Griff hatte, mussten das Büro Maki und die Architekten der Ausführungsplanung schneider+schumacher nirgendwo an der Qualität sparen. Es gab keine Bürgerproteste, keine Bauskandale, keine Kritik der Nutzung und der Architektur gegenüber, keine missmutige Presse. Wie kein weiteres aktuelles Großbauprojekt derzeit erfreut sich das mre allgemeiner Wertschätzung – auch weil sich Sonja und Reinhard Ernst der Förderung der Kunst verschrieben haben. Deshalb ist die Architektur darauf ausgelegt, Besucher und Passanten mit offenen Armen zu empfangen. Ein umfangreiches didaktisches Programm für Schulklassen und Jugendliche (die bis 18 Jahren freien Eintritt haben) soll speziell der Jugend Kunst vermitteln. I've been trying to get a shot of the hummingbird I saw two days ago on my deck, since it would be a county first (I'm not an established birder, so my word isn't enough that I saw a Broad-tailed Hummingbird). I've sat waiting for it. Darned thing was probably migrating through. So I'm reading, and watching, and getting sleepy, when this guy lands on my deck rail. Thank you for sitting there long enough for me to get a shot, Mr. Purple Finch. It's all I got from just sitting there watching. Last night I had hummingbird and field guide dreams. Better than Covid19 dreams, for sure.

N yes, the boondocks can be stifling.

Whilst going out to take photos in remote areas is exercise and is unlikely to be high risk for virus transmission, the government guidelines do ask us to minimise the time spent outdoors. For the different types of photography that interest myself I am unlikely to capture the images I want in an hour or so, and so therefore might as well not bother.... not to mention all the kit I need to lug about - I hardly look like I'm purely taking exercise.... then there is the 'unnecessary' car journey I would need to make.... oh and the looks and comments I would get from people who might live more 'locally' than myself.... even if I travelled within my own 'local council' borough. Perhaps the government can have two different definitions of the word 'local'.
Anyway, for all these reasons, photography is off the cards for myself at the moment. So the bonus is looking through the archives.
For now, that's where my images are coming from.
Keeping myself busy though building a new website, putting a couple of books together and of course elite sport is continuing for the time being so my other 'day' job is taking a good slice of my time too.

Rail Force One 193 627, RAILLOGIX.
Nadat de zon bij Willemsdorp te ver begon door te draaien werd er verder gereden richting Noord-Brabant. Het stationnetje van Oisterwijk zou het toneel worden voor de eerste foto daar, aangezien ik Heukelom wel genoeg gezien had de afglopen 2 weken.
MAARRRRRR........
Het werd even anders. Namelijk de Katy was gespot, met de 193 627, de RAILLOGIX variant en die heb ik nog niet lekker op de foto, 2 keer met lege containertrein.
Dus werd er koers gezet naar Helvoirt om daar de trein op te wachten. De volbeladne trein 41720 ( Katy Wroclawskie - Moerdijk ) passeert hier Helvoirt en vervolgd zo de rit richting Tilburg en Lage Zwaluwe. Daar wordt de trein overgenomen door Captrain en die plaatst dan de trein in Moerdijk.

Pas laat op de dag zou het zonnig worden, dus kon er eerst van twee kanten gefotografeerd worden in Woltorf. De 293 008 samen met de 232 223 werden tevreden afgedrukt.
Met wat vertraging door een spoorbreuk tussen Stroe en Apeldoorn zijn de 1837 en 1619 van Captrain zojuist binnen gerold in Apeldoorn. Tussendoor moest er ook nog geschouwd worden omdat de trein ervoor aanrijdingsresten had zien liggen, geen pretje dus. Gelukkig ging het om enkele zwijnen die aan barrels gereden waren. Er moest even gewacht worden in Apeldoorn, en om de tijd nuttig te besteden werd een bakje koffie gehaald en kon de trein even digitaal vastgelegd worden.
We zien de 1837 en 1619 met keteltrein 47619 naar Bad Bentheim in belabberde lichtomstandigheden in het station van Apeldoorn op 15 januari 2018

Macro Mondays and "Printed Word"
I was looking around the house for an old newspaper as I hadn't bought one for quite a while and I came across an edition of "Photography News" which is a free newspaper which can be picked up at certain outlets including Jessops which is still open in the nearby town of Horsham.
Once I had found it I started flicking through the pages to find a word/composition I liked. After locating a section with some words and a photo I noticed a paragraph containing photographic abbreviations and decided to make it a depth of field shot as these abbreviations all seemed to line up together.
