De habitat (Latijn voor: 'hij/zij/het bewoont') betreft vrijwel altijd stromend water, met een vrij hoge zuurstofverzadiging. De hoogste dichtheden worden bereikt op plaatsen met een afwisselend, natuurlijk verloop van de beek, waardoor snel en langzaam stromende delen aanwezig zijn. Het water moet ten minste voor een deel in de zon liggen. Een ruige, overhangende oevervegetatie is belangrijk als zitplaats voor imago's. Delen zonder deze vegetatie worden gemeden. In het water moeten voldoende drijvende of in het water hangende planten aanwezig zijn voor de ei-afzet.

The word sail, a monument to poetry, is the name of a steel sculpture by Heinrich Popp.
The sculpture stands on an open field northwest of Sotzweiler, the birthplace of the sculptor and today a district of the Saarland municipality of Tholey in the district of St. Wendel. On an elevation of about 338 metres above NHN, the sculpture represents a landmark visible from afar.
The word sail consists of two sail-shaped triangles, one of which stands on the top and which are twisted against each other. The two halves of the sail, made of stainless steel, are welded together at their highest point. At the same time, the empty space between the two steel plates also has a sail-like shape, depending on the point of view.
The monument, a gift from Heinrich Popp to his home community, was erected in 2005 after several years of planning and execution. The two steel plates were cast in the Dillinger Hütte and rolled to a thickness of 3 cm. The sculpture has a height of 13 meters and a total weight of approx. 30 tons.
The term word sail is also the name of a writing and poetry competition initiated by the artist at participating schools in Saarland.

Das Wortsegel, ein Denkmal für Poesie, ist der Name einer Stahlplastik von Heinrich Popp.
Die Skulptur steht auf offenem Feld nordwestlich von Sotzweiler, dem Geburtsort des Bildhauers und heute ein Ortsteil der saarländischen Gemeinde Tholey im Landkreis St. Wendel. Auf einer Anhöhe von etwa 338 Metern über NHN stellt die Plastik eine weithin sichtbare Landmarke dar.
Das Wortsegel besteht aus zwei jeweils segelförmigen Dreiecken, von denen eins auf der Spitze steht und die gegeneinander verdreht/verspiegelt aufgestellt sind. An ihrer obersten Stelle sind die beiden aus rostendem Stahl erschaffenen Segelhälften miteinander verschweißt. Gleichzeitig besitzt auch der sich zwischen den beiden Stahlplatten befindende leere Raum abhängig vom Betrachtungsstandpunkt ebenfalls eine segelähnliche Form.
Das Denkmal, ein Geschenk von Heinrich Popp an seine Heimatgemeinde, wurde nach mehrjähriger Planungs- und Ausführungsphase 2005 errichtet. Die beiden Stahlplatten wurden in der Dillinger Hütte gegossen und bis auf eine Stärke von 3 cm gewalzt. Die Skulptur hat eine Höhe von 13 Metern und besitzt ein Gesamtgewicht von ca. 30 Tonnen
Der Begriff Wortsegel ist gleichzeitig der Name eines von dem Künstler ins Leben gerufenen Schreib- und Lyrikwettbewerbs an teilnehmenden Schulen im Saarland.

The common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, Cuculiformes, which includes the roadrunners, the anis and the coucals.
This species is a widespread summer migrant to Europe and Asia, and winters in Africa. It is a brood parasite, which means it lays eggs in the nests of other bird species, particularly of dunnocks, meadow pipits, and reed warblers. Although its eggs are larger than those of its hosts, the eggs in each type of host nest resemble the host's eggs. The adult too is a mimic, e that species is a predator, the mimicry gives the female time to lay her eggs without being seen to do so.
The English word "cuckoo" comes from the Old French cucu and it first appears about 1240 in the poem Sumer Is Icumen In - "Summer has come in / Loudly sing, Cuckoo!" in modern English.
The scientific name is from Latin. Cuculus is "cuckoo" and canorus, "melodious ".
A study using stuffed bird models found that small birds are less likely to approach common cuckoos that have barred underparts similar to the Eurasian sparrowhawk, a predatory bird. Eurasian reed warblers were found more aggressive to cuckoos that looked less hawk-like, meaning that the resemblance to the hawk helps the cuckoo to access the nests of potential hosts. Other small birds, great tits and blue tits, showed alarm and avoided attending feeders on seeing either (mounted) sparrowhawks or cuckoos; this implies that the cuckoo's hawklike appearance functions as protective mimicry, whether to reduce attacks by hawks or to make brood parasitism easier.
The common cuckoo is an obligate brood parasite; it lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. At the appropriate moment, the hen cuckoo flies down to the host's nest, pushes one egg out of the nest, lays an egg and flies off. The whole process takes about 10 seconds. A female may visit up to 50 nests during a breeding season. Common cuckoos first breed at the age of two years.
More than 100 host species have been recorded: meadow pipit, dunnock and Eurasian reed warbler are the most common hosts in northern Europe; garden warbler, meadow pipit, pied wagtail and European robin in central Europe; brambling and common redstart in Finland; and great reed warbler in Hungary.
Studies were made of 90 great reed warbler nests in central Hungary. There was an "unusually high" frequency of common cuckoo parasitism, with 64% of the nests parasitised. Of the nests targeted by cuckoos, 64% contained one cuckoo egg, 23% had two, 10% had three and 3% had four common cuckoo eggs. In total, 58% of the common cuckoo eggs were laid in nests that were multiply parasitised. When laying eggs in nests already parasitised, the female cuckoos removed one egg at random, showing no discrimination between the great reed warbler eggs and those of other cuckoos.
It was found that nests close to cuckoo perches were most vulnerable: multiple parasitised nests were closest to the vantage points, and unparasitised nests were farthest away. Nearly all the nests "in close vicinity" to the vantage points were parasitised. More visible nests were more likely to be selected by the common cuckoos. Female cuckoos use their vantage points to watch for potential hosts and find it easier to locate the more visible nests while they are egg-laying.

LS&I's 3 Tilden rumbles through the well known rock cut at Eagle Mills with two greens in charge. Word is the old units are to be replaced by some newly rebuilt AC44s in first quarter of 2022.

De Oostenrijkse spoorgoederenvervoerder LTE heeft in het voorjaar van 2017 de film "Lord of the Rails - one rail to serve" laten maken. De ruim zeven minuten durende promotiefilm is gebaseerd op de Lord of the Rings-filmtrilogie en laat een queeste zien van drie metgezellen op doorreis in Midden-Aarde.
De film laat op een originele wijze de teamspirit van het personeel van LTE zien. De film is begin mei 2017 op de Transport Logistic-beurs in München in premiere gegaan. Speciaal hiervoor is de 187 930 aan beide zijden bestickerd met promotiemateriaal van Lord of the Rails. Afgelopen jaar kwam de 187 931 met een vergelijkbare bestickering in dienst bij LTE. De bestickering is overigens aangebracht op een Flexpanel, dat op beide zijkanten van de locomotief aangebracht kan worden.
Op 25 juli 2019 werd de fraaie locomotief ingezet voor een beladen (bio)ketelwagentrein uit het Oostenrijkse Stadlau naar Hamburg Hohe Schaar en kon hier in Wernfeld worden vastgelegd. Nog geen week later zou blijken dat beide Lord-Of-The-Rails 187'ers vanwege vandalisme hun flexpanel zijn kwijtgeraakt.
Villa Oud Groevenbeek op het landgoed met dezelfde naam ligt in Ermelo en is een in Jugendstil-stijl gebouwd Rijksmonument. De villa ligt in een prachtige tuin waar vroeger groenten en fruit werden geteeld. Vanaf de heuvel loop je naar de kasteelachtige watertoren uit 1912 en de druivenkas uit 1915. Hierin groeien de druiven die worden gebruikt voor de eigen landgoedwijn 'Chateau Oud Groevenbeek'. Vanuit het huis loop je naar het theehuis, over de paden langs de Volenbeek, de sprengkop en de grafheuvels op de Groevenbeekse heide. Hier komen buizerds, haviken, reeën, wilde zwijnen, vossen, dassen, groene, zwarte & middelste bonte spechten en ijsvogels voor.

My take on the Macro Mondays theme 'One Word.' POV in the image is about one and a half inches in diameter of the cookie.
Tussen Trondheim en Bodø rijden een dag en nacht paar getrokken mat. Als liefhebber van getrokken materieel stond dit meteen hoog op het lijstje om iets te doen als het mogelijk zou zijn. De dagtrein vertrok vroeg in de ochtend uit Trondheim en die uit Bodø kwam laat in de avond aan dat zou toch best wat kansen geven. Zonder auto ben je wat minder mobiel maar een huurfiets systeem in Trondheim bood uitkomst. De eerste avond gebruikte ik als verkenning van wat fotopunten en een eerste poging de trein uit Bodø te fotograferen. Helaas kwam deze niet opdagen en tijdens het terugfietsen werd ik verrast door setje diesellocs met beladen houttrein... De volgende ochtend toen de wederhelft nog sliep werd in alle vroegte een fietstocht richting Være ondernomen. Deze ochtend zou het strak blauw zijn en zou ook de enige kans zijn op de ochtendcontainertrein.
Toen de fiets gepakt werd was het inderdaad strak blauw en werd vol goede zin vertrokken. De leenfietsen bleken echter niet echt heel goed te fietsen en de weg behoorlijk heuvelachtig. Na flink afzien kwam ik nog prima op tijd op de gewenste stek aan waar de zon het helaas net voor de trein verloor van de wolken. Gelukkig was de achtergrond ook netjes bewolkt geraakt en kon er wel worden afgedrukt. De serene rust werd deze ochtend tijdelijk bruut verstoort toen deze zeer gave Di 4 met nummer 4652 voorbij kwam stuiven met de uit 4 wagens en restauratie bestaande dagtrein naar Bodø. De fietstocht meer dan waard.
Nu was de grote vraag zou de containertrein zich ook keurig op tijd laten zien?

Weithin sichtbar ist der Monteagudo, ein Berg, der zur gleichnamigen Region nahe Murcia gehört. Auf ihm steht die große Christusstatue. Eine alte Burg aus der Maurenzeit ist dort das Fundament für dieses berühmte, und über die Landesgrenzen hinaus, bekannte Monument, ähnlich dem in Rio. Christus scheint das Tal zu überblicken. Das Denkmal ist ein sehr beliebtes Fotomotiv und es wird als ein Zeichen der Vergebung angesehen. Die Statue ist 14 Meter hoch. Im Jahre 1951 wurde sie von Nicolas Martinez, einem spanischen Künstler, erschaffen. Allerdings ist sie schon die zweite ihrer Art, denn das ursprüngliche Christusdenkmal, das 1926 erbaut worden war, fiel den Wirren des Spanischen Bürgerkrieges zum Opfer, der von 1936 bis 1939 andauerte und während dieser Zeit auch zur Zerstörung der Statue unrühmlich beigetragen hatte. Noch einmal geriet sie in die Schlagzeilen, nämlich als der spanische Juristenverband seine Demontage forderte. Er hatte sich auf die verbürgten Grundrechte berufen und sah die Statue als Verstoß gegen die Religionsfreiheit und als Provokation an. Doch noch – und das ist unstrittig - genießt der überragende Christus sehr viel Aufmerksamkeit, nicht nur durch die Bewohner der umliegenden Gemeinden, sondern auch durch die Touristen, die sich den Anblick dieser Sehenswürdigkeit nicht entgehen lassen.wiki
Een tijdje na de klik van de RTB Smartron was de zon naar de andere kant van het spoor gedraaid en kon er weer een ander standpunt worden aangenomen. Een van de fraaiere treinen op dit punt was de eerste van twee TXL treinen van de dag, getrokken door de helaas ietwat smerige 185 538.
Op 1 februari 2025 kwamen de Eurocity en Eurocity direct moeizaam op gang, zodat de eerste Traxx die bij Nispen op de foto kon worden gezet, er een van Crossrail was. De 186 447 passeerde met een containertrein richting België de kleumende fotograaf, die verlangde naar zijn verwarmde autostoel.
The topic for Macro Mondays is Blue, and even with all the blue stuff we have in our home, I hate to tell ya what a struggle I had finding something blue that would lend itself to macroization (my dumb spell check doesn't think "macroization" is a word...). Anyway, what I ended up with is this ¾-inch section of a 200 yard spool of 60 pound test monofilament fishing line. It may not be pretty, but at least it's blue.

Na een tweetal geslaagde plaatjes in Wierthe, werd halverwege de middag van donderdag 1 september 2022, vandaag precies 13 maanden geleden, het welbekende rechte stuk bij Woltorf opgezocht. In eerste instantie voor treinen vanuit het westen, want Press had zich aangekondigd met haar toen recent geschilderde 110 511 welke was ingeschakeld voor een ARS Altmann autotrein. De trein was al te laat, maar in Woltorf kun je tot ongeveer half 4 in de middag staan, dus dat moest waarschijnlijk wel goedkomen. Helaas voor ons duurde het toch allemaal langer dan verwacht, en was de overige opbrengst niet om over naar huis te schrijven. Enkel RTB Cargo kwam voorbij met een slecht beladen PCC-Shuttle, gevolgd door een EVB 140 met lege BLG autotrein welke vervolgens ten prooi viel van een fotowolk.
Terwijl de zon al nagenoeg haaks stond, en deze dus net achter het bochtje langzaam maar zeker voor treinen vanuit het oosten aan het indraaien was, werd RailAdventure ineens gemeld. Ze reden net door Braunschweig heen met een vluchtelingentrein, welke toen nog reden vanuit Polen met Oekraïnse vluchtelingen. Zonder twijfel werden de spullen ingepakt en verplaatsten we zo'n 500 meter westwaarts net achter het bochtje. De zon kwam inderdaad net indraaien maar was ook nog aan de haakse kant. Onze conclusie was dat het al wel moest kunnen voor een 111, en dus werd er op goed geluk gewacht, hopende dat we niet te maken zouden krijgen met een fotowolk. Net nadat we begonnen waren met wachten, sloten in de verte de overwegbomen en was er geruis achter ons hoorbaar, en jawel daar kwam dan Press voorbij... Helaas kan het niet altijd goed gaan, en dat bleek ook met RailAdventure. De vluchtelingentrein was voor de verandering eens linksaf geslagen bij Groß-Gleidingen en reed vervolgens via Hildesheim naar Hannover-Laatzen waardoor die hele trein dus niet aan ons voorbij kwam.
In een wat pessimistische bui werd er dan maar afgewacht wat er nog komen ging. De negativiteit was gelukkig snel voorbij toen er opnieuw een melding vanuit Braunschweig verscheen. Netzwerkbahn Sachsen was onderweg met de "Black Lady" van DB Mietpool, en daarachter een volle BLG autotrein. Zeker geen verkeerde pleister op de wond, en kon er dus met wat voorpret afgewacht worden. Nadat de raampjestrein voorbij was sloot de overweg al snel weer. Na een tweetal minuten wachten komt dan de verwachte zwarte Trabbi tevoorschijn met haar sleep auto's. Een blik naar de lucht leert ons dat de zon voorlopig blijft schijnen, en dus kan er fijn afgedrukt worden!
De klok slaat 15:45 als de NeS 143 326 "Miete mich!" te Woltorf passeert met een ramvolle BLG autotrein 83072 vanuit Falkenberg (Elster) naar Emden Rangierbahnhof. Zo blijkt maar weer, na regen komt zonneschijn, ook voor de treinen :P

Design Inspiration
Resilience is a word that speaks both to the character of Cantabrians, and also the artist’s experience in recovery from the mosque attacks. Zulfirman Syah first arrived in Christchurch from overseas in early 2019. It only took an instant on that afternoon in March to permanently fuse his soul to this place. He reflects, “However broken we might be—as individuals, a community, or a city—we can always piece ourselves together again”. Through a patchwork of colours on a penguin, the artist reflects on the varied chapters in our life, our diversity as individuals, and our emergence from periods of darkness with a new spirit.
6413,6411 DBC Met een Militaire trein onderweg naar Acht via Roermond.
Onderweg naar familie bezoek in zuid-limburg had ik de planning dit te combineren met een plaatje maken van de 111 174. Aangezien deze in een andere omloop zat dan ik gepland had en ik een melding kreeg van Militaire vervoer naar Acht viel de keuze om naar de Maaslijn te gaan.
Bij aankomst in Reuver bleek ik niet de enigste te zijn die deze tip had gehad. Samen met 8 andere fotograven kon de trein vastgelegd worden met op de achtergrond wat mooie herfstkleuren.
