It was definitely a special day when this wolf pup was spotted along the Park Road in Denali National Park - between Polychrome and East Fork of the Toklat.

It was a cold day, but lots of sun. The group had many intimidating lenses... I'd love to own one of those fancy, monster lenses....hell, I'd like to have the money to rent one of those fancy, monster lenses...but I'm scared to death, my photography would suffer.... I've been using my little S3 IS for 2 years now, and I love it. I'm not one of those people who likes to get all caught up in f-stops, focus and er....er...that's about all the buzz words I can throw out there...

I do have a fancy SLR camera that I inherited from my brother, but its auto functions stink! I don't trust myself with that camera on a trip like this....also, it doesn't fit under my coat.....And, I might 'Look" like I actually know what I'm doing! Next thing you know I would be toting around and F.N. tripod..... we can't have that, now can we.....

Maybe when I "start my diet" I'll dig out the SLR for another try....ha ha!

This is a captive wolf at the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre. It's located just west of Golden, BC. I went looking for wild wolves but couldn't find any so it was a pleasure to photograph these ones.

Wolf howling at the out of shape man with a camera.

ISO:560, 460mm, F6.3, 1/250 sec on Monopod through glass - Trying out the New Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens and really impressed. Terrible lighting on the day but using a monopod and image stabilisation I could get shots at 500mm @ 1/10 sec! refer to the bird shot. Amazing lens.

I saw this grey wolf on the Nisga'a Highway. She wasn't afraid of the truck at all, she walked within 10-15 feet of us. It's the first time I've ever seen a wolf in the wild, she looked very healthy. I'm glad I stayed in the truck!

*Update* This wolf had to be destroyed because people had been feeding her. DON'T FEED WILD ANIMALS, PEOPLE!

A wolf of the Grant Creek pack linage, taken in the Highway Pass area of Denali National Park.

The Grant Creek Pack is in some disarray right now. A trapper trapped the alpha female this spring and the loss of an alpha can disrupt the entire pack of the alpha male doesn't pick a new mate in the pack. I heard both that the pack was disbanding and that the outcome was still undertain this weekend.

If they disband it will be unfortunate as this pack has worked alongside the road for the last several years and is the source of most of the wolf sighings in Denali.

The wolves in Blijdorp are accesible from different sides to get the best view.

Still another polar wolf portrait, walking towards me.
