Words of wisdom

Minimal Sunday

In Dutch we have a saying; 'Een half ei is beter dan een lege dop', literally 'Half an egg is better than an empty shell', meaning: A little is better than nothing.

'Half a loaf is better than no

bread.'

'Better some of a pudding than none of a pie.

... and many thanks for your views, faves and comments!

This is part of a picture I cross-stitched several years ago that hangs on my bedroom wall.

Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh, is a global buddhist spiritual leader, poet and peace activist, revered around the world for his pioneering teachings on mindfulness, global ethics and peace.

The text was personally written by him approximately 20 years ago.

Looking close...on Friday: Wise words

"Novus ordo seclorum" is a Latin phrase that means "A new order of the ages (is born)." For the Looking Close on Friday group, challenge: wise words. Happy Friday!

The motto Novus ordo seclorum was translated from the Latin by Charles Thomson, a Latin expert who was involved in the design of the Great Seal of The United States and proposed it, as "A new order of the ages." He said it was to signify "the beginning of the new American Era" as of the date of the Declaration of Independence, 1776. This version appears on the back side of the U.S. One Dollar Bill.

Are these wise words, or a warning.... Happy Friday everybody.

...with a strange mix of sunshine and ice!

My February has been dominated by two things - snow and the COVID vaccine! For almost all the month we have been kept at home by the constant wintry weather. Snow, ice, sleet and gales ... it was almost impossible to get out - even for a little exercise! And then there has been the roll-out of the vaccine; and for us it meant braving the weather (as soon as we could) to make the 30 mile round trip to the nearest vaccination centre.

In vaccine terms, as more and more people are getting their first jabs, the focus is beginning to shift. Our first goal was (still is) to drive down the infection numbers in the country, vaccinate as many people as possible - and take the strain off the health services, so we can think about coming out of lockdown.

But there's a new twist to the story, as we are becoming more aware of the number of mutations, new variants of the original virus! This means that the speed of vaccination roll-out matters not only for us, but everywhere! Wherever rates of transmission remain high it is almost inevitable that new variants will emerge. So the pandemic has still got a long way to go, and many more twists and turns!

In photographic terms the winter has proved to be a time of lock-down by nature as well as government! Not much scope to visit the coast, or even closer beauty spots. Shooting the winter garden, the village in snow and ice is mainly as far as I got! So still life and indoor shooting dominated the month.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has visited my photostream and for the comments and faves. I hope the collage gives an enjoyable look back through February ;o)

Looking Close ... on Friday! - Wise Words - 26 Feb 2021.

The words spoken by Captain Sir Tom Moore in April 2020, stating that this was the way he looked at life and is the title of his autobiography.

A national hero and inspiration to the UK, who helped to raise over £32 million for the NHS charities at the start of the pandemic in 2020, leading up to his 100th birthday.

Sadly he died of the virus on 2nd Feb 2021 and his funeral is being held on 27th Feb 2021 (tomorrow).

If you wish to know more about this amazing man and his story read about him on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Tom_Moore

people who make life more beautiful, simply because they exist.

I like the motto found in my neighbour's backyard.

When do you go to bed? I consider it to be sleepless if I cannot get to bed after 9 PM. :o)

When you do get up in the morning? I think having breakfast after 6 AM is too late because I have already fasting for more than 12 hours! :o)

And do you fertilize everyday? I don't.

Have a great Tuesday!

Wise man says, tears can mature a person, tears can also make you see clearer of the future, so if you want to see it, start staring at this picture till your eyes hurt and you start crying!

Happy weekend peeps! 😜😘🍻

She's gone now, but every now and then I discover her voice, whispering from the pages of her books.

Some very dear friends gave me this when they visited recently.

I had a walk in Britannia Shipyard yesterday and met with this seagull. He looks like a wise bird having good photographic eye and I consulted him about photography.

Man: Do we need 1Dx or D4 to make the best pictures?

Gull: No!

Man: Do we need ISO 204,800?

Gull: No!

Man: Do we need F0.95, F1.2, F1.4 or even F2.8 lenses to make good pictures?

Gull: No!

Man: Do we need Photoshop, Lightroom and RAW?

Gull: No!

Man: Do we need 108 bit, 1,800MP 8" x 12" super-large format sensor?

Gull: No!

I feel something wrong. So I asked a skiill test question.

Man: Are you a seagull?

Gull: No!

Oh no! He is telling all the lies about photography!!

Have a happy happy weekend!

This is my minimalist seagull at Britannia Shipyard.
