Hot copper wire imparts a distinctive green color to aerated Bunsen flame. However, copper does not actually burn in air, it just oxidizes superficially giving a layer of copper I and II oxides (cuprous and cupric oxide). The flame color is thought to be caused by little copper vapor.
1 ball of wire wool. 1 balloon whisk. A length of chain and a brave volunteer. Be sure your volunteer wears a hat if you try this!!!

This is telegraph wire, around 110 years old, along 3rd Street in Oakland CA. From the green patina I'm guessing it's some copper alloy.

There's a wetland in the forest behind my house, and for some reason, at some point in time it was separated by barbed wire. I've been pulling it out as I find it, but this piece goes into the water, so I'll have to wait until spring.

The wire and strip are galvanized to make the Razor Barbed Wire anti-corrosion.
