Brown-winged Kingfisher, Pekaka Bakau Emas, Pelargopsis amauroptera
Brown-winged Kingfisher can found in Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand. In Malaysia, the bird can only be found on the island on Langkawi. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical mangrove forests. This is a lowland bird and also a mangrove bird. The bird can usually be spotted on exposed twigs in mangrove area to make its call, where the loud call can be heard over longer distances. Not a shy bird but for sure it is limited in numbers, so it hard to find.

(Wikipedia)
The winged soul/cherub is a common motif among Galloway gravestones. Popular during the 18th/early 19th century, it symbolises the flight of the soul from the body. This example is from the Clachan of Penninghame.
Osprey. View Large On Black for Detail Backlite brings out the wonderful detail in its wings. Sometimes knows as the sea hawk. It has a 6 ft wingspan. The Osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats, nesting in any location near a body of water providing an adequate food supply (fish). It is found on all continents except Antarctica although in South America it occurs only as a non-breeding migrant. I have been dive bombed by them and they constantly harass herons while they try to fish. Canon's 400mm f5.6 lens IMG_8721

351) Blue Winged Pitta
Blue-Winged Pitta, Pitta moluccensis, Burung Pacat Sayap Biru
Pitta native to Australia and Southeast Asia. A colourful bird, it has a black head with a buff stripe above the eye, a white collar, greenish upper parts, blue wings, buff underparts and a reddish vent area. Its range extends from India to Malaysia, Indonesia, southern China and the Philippines. Its habitat is moist woodland, mangroves, parks and gardens and it avoids dense forest. The blue-winged pitta mostly feeds on worms and insects, hunting them on the ground or from a low branch or perch. They also eat hard-shelled snails. At breeding time, the blue-winged pitta builds a large nest, usually on the ground, made of twigs, roots, grasses, leaves and mosses. The spherical and untidy nest has a side entrance and is often found between tree roots near water. In its breeding range in peninsular Malaysia, the blue-winged pitta lays eggs between early May and late July each year.

A small duck of the marsh, Blue-winged Teals can be found feeding amongst the cattails and sedges along with Mallards and other dabbling waterfowl.
They get their name from the brilliant band of blue feathers under the wings which is normally only seen in flight.

This image of a Bronze-winged Jacana shows that indeed the wings have a beautiful bronze hue. We also see the other colours in the plumage repertoire of this eyecatching species, as well as the red base to the upper mandible. Adults of this species look similar, although females are larger. The breeding ecology of this species is intriguing, with a female breeding with multiple males and a male incubating the resulting eggs. Males also rear the young. Males attract females with what has been described as a yelling call. The individual in this photo was seen in the Lat Krabang area of Bangkok, Thailand: a place that is close to the international airport yet still has extensive rice paddies.
The blur of the wing motion is due to the backlighting from the sun. Three SB-800 flash units were set to 1/32 power to create an approximate flash duration of 1/18000th of a second. Flash sync set to rear curtain.

Bronze Winged Jacana, Metopidius indicus, Burung Teratai Tembaga
Bronze-winged jacanas are rail-like, large, short tailed birds that appear dark at a distance except for the supercilium. The species is widely distributed across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia mainly in low elevations, found singly or in pairs foraging on aquatic vegetation.
